Green Bean Casserole
Does anyone have a favorite recipe for Green Bean Casserole that is made with fresh green beans instead of canned?
|
Nothing specific, you could just blanch your beans first then follow your recipe. I have several green bean recipes but non of them are cassaroles.

I'm sure the green bean casserole will work the same with fresh green beans, only it will taste BETTER!

[QUOTE=QuiltingVagabond;6967673]I made this one a couple of times
I love this recipe, but I don't bundle the beans. I cook the bacon till crisp and then crumble it. Then pour the sauce over the cooked beans and sprinkle the bacon on top and bake for about 10 min. |
Generally, the Green Bean Casserole is on the Cream of Mushroom Soup can. Here's the recipe from the can but I adjust as needed:
Green Bean Casserole Prep: 15 min Bake: 30 min Yield: 12 servings (3/4 c. each) 2 cans (10 3/4 oz. each) Cream of Mushroom Condensed Soup 1 c. milk (I use canned evaporated milk instead of homogenized) 2 tsp. soy sauce (IMHO, this is optional) 1/4 tsp. black pepper (we like pepper, so I add more than called for) 8 c. cooked cut green beans 2 2/3 c. French's Fried Onions (or any brand will work) 1. Heat oven to 350 degrees, spray 3 qt. casserole dish with Pam (my recommendation) 2. Stir soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, beans & 1 1/3 c. french fried onions in 3 qt. casserole dish 3. Bake 25 min. or until bean mixture is hot and bubbling 4. Stir bean mixture, then top with remaining french fried onions (I generally add more ff onions to top 5. Bake 5 additional minutes, or until golden brown Optional: For more crunch, add add 1/2 c. toasted sliced almonds to onion topping For bacon lovers, add 4 slices booked and crumbled bacon to bean mixture For festive touch, add 1/2 c. chopped red pepper to the soup (I generally add roasted red bell pepper) For cheese lovers, stir in 1/2 c. shredded cheese with soup and omit soy sauce, then sprinkle top of casserole with an additional 1/2 c. cheese to the top along with the french fried onions |
