Ham Balls
Does anyone have a GOOD recipe for Ham Balls
|
You made me hungry just mentioning them! This is my recipe for ham loaf, and can be shaped into meatballs, if you wish:
HAM BALLS 2 lbs. lean pork 1 lb ham 2 eggs 1 cup saltine cracker crumbs 1/2 cup ketchup 1/4 cup water Have butcher grind the meats together. They will do this if you give them advance notice. Their grinder needs to be cleaned after doing this mix, so they prefer to do it at the end of the day, when they will be cleaning the thing anyway. Or you can grind them yourself if you have a grinder. Shape into balls about the size of walnut. Bake at 325 degrees. 2 hours for a loaf--less for meatballs. Check after 1 hour. |
Ham balls
3 lbs hamloaf = 1 1/2 lbs ground pork
1 1/2 lbs ground ham 2 eggs beaten 1 1/2 cup crushed graham crackers 1 cup milk di ced onion or onion powder(optional) salt & pepper to taste sauce: 1 can tomato soup 1 cup brown sugar 1/2 cup white vinegar 1 tsp dry mustard Mix meat mixture altogether & form into balls (should be able to get 22 - 24 balls) Mix sauce together & pour over the top. Bake covered 45 min or so then uncover & bake 15 - 25 min more - 350 degree oven These freeze well, you can make half the recipe (12 balls) or you can double & it makes about 44 - 48. In Iowa we have Fareway stores that you can purchase hamloaf already ground & mixed together for about 2.99 a lb. It freezes well also. Some prefer to mix some hamburger in also but we prefer just ham & pork. Enjoy |

Golfer girl I recently visited my daughter in Altoona and she thinks no ones meat compares to Fairway she served their hamballs while I was there they were so delicious, I was going to bring some home but forgot to stop and get them so decided to try making them. Hope they turn out as good as Fairways.
