Hamburger Pie

Here is a recipe from 1960 Campbell Soup - My family still love this and it is a nice change this time of year.

1# Hamburger
1 Can Campbell Tomato Soup
1 Can Green Beans drained
1 Small Onion Chopped
5 or 6 Potatoes Mashed with milk & butter or 4 Cups of Instant Mashed potatoes Mixed according to the package.

I brown the hamburger and onion- drain off the fat. Mix the soup and green beans in. Put in a casserole dish. Top with mashed potatoes. Bake 350 for 30 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
I use to use Instant when I was pressed for time but now I just boil my potatoes, drain and mash with a pastry blender thingie and add some milk and butter. My family doesn't mind lumpy potatoes so I don't have to get the mixer out and whip them up. I just plop the potatoes on top of the hamburger mixer and bake. My husband likes to eat this cold out of the fridge so sometimes I double the recipe.

I've used mixed veggies, layer of velveeta then mashed tatoes...I call it shepherds pie...

That does remind me of shepards pie. My DH loves my shepards pie recipe! I put in frozen mixed veggies and French onion soup mix too. Thanks for sharing you version.

Ok, I will add one. I admit, I didn't think this sounded so good, but I was given the recipe by a very good cook. So easy and fast !

Baked Bean Goulash: Brown 1 pound hamburger with diced onion, add in 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp (or less) salt, 1 tsp chili powder, 1 cup macaroni (cooked), 1 smaller can baked beans and juice, 1 can condensed tomato soup. Cover and bake 30 minutes @350.

Tranum, I am going to try your Baked Bean Goulash. I like to have easy hamburger recipes around. I have made what we call Hamburger Goulash with 1# hamburger, small onion, green pepper, worchester sauce, 2 cups cooked noodles, 1 can tomato sauce. This is good too. I can't wait to try yours tho. I am wondering are you using baked beans or pork n beans. I guess you said baked beans so duh.... Well, I am going to try it. If I had baked beans I would make it today but I don't have any. I was planning chili so guess I will stick to that.

My DIL makes this and it's delicious. Add some various spices and it's delicious.

One of my kids and DH's favorites is Impossible Cheeseburger pie. It is an old recipe from the back of the Bisquick box. Super simple. I add more cheese then the recipe says. DH put sour cream on his and the kids liked cranberry sauce with theirs. Great potluck dish. http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/...8-1654640c7525

I make a similar dish but instead of green beans I use Ranch Style beans, some chili powder and garlic salt and sometimes add chopped green bell pepper, I add two or three small cans of tomato sauce, have never tried tomato soup with this. I cook everything except the potatoes in my large cast iron skillet on top of the stove, cook the potatoes separately, mash them and then add them to the top of the dish and serve. This way I only have a couple of dishes to clean up-I like to make cooking as easy as possible since I hate to cook.

Sounds good. Dad used to boil the hamburger add potatoes , peas carrot and put a crust on top and bake. That

was good also.

Pork and beans would be alright, I just don't care for them. next time I will double it, so we can reheat leftovers. Cook once, eat twice, that's mt motto !
