HELP! Hard boiled eggs
I bet you know where this is going! Any tips for getting the shells off of hard boiled eggs when you use fresh eggs? I bring the eggs to a boil, remove from heat for 12 minutes, then plunge eggs into ice bath. I read somewhere that adding vinegar to the water before boiling will do the trick?:confused:

add salt to the water when boiling them. It helps some.

I don't know if this works, but I saw a video on Facebook about putting the eggs after they are boiled, in a jar (can't remember if they had water in it or not) and shaking them until the shells were in shreds. Supposedly the shells came off easily.

I saw onTV to add baking soda to your water but I have not tried it. I bring water to the boil then turn down to simmer for 12 minutes. I then drain the pot and fill with cold water. When the eggs are cool enough to handle I crack them all over on the pot and then peel from the blunt end of the egg where the air pocket is.

I always just put them in cold water, bring to a boil, remove from the heat and let them set in the pan with the lid on until they are cool. Then put them in the frig. I rarely have trouble taking the shells off. If I just tap the bottom on the edge of the counter the shell comes right off.

Whoever thought that there would be so many ways to boil eggs! I boil my for 10 minutes and immediately put them in ice water. I found that the fresher the eggs the easier it is to peel the shell off.

I steam them. I used to use a steamer basket in a pan but now I use my ninja 3-1 cooker. I use fresh eggs (we have laying hens) and we get the occasional one that's hard to peel but mostly they are easy enough. I also put them in ice water (using actual ice cubes) after I take them out of the steamer.
eta: In the ninja I steam them for 25 min total. When I used a pan I think I started the timer after the water started boiling and steamed for about 15 min. It's been so long I can't remember for sure. |
I've also heard of people using a pressure cooker if you have one of those. Look up pressure cooked hard boiled eggs on google.
