I buy a large canister of cocoa mix and add flavored creamer. French vanilla and amaretto se's to be everyones' favorites.

my son made it one year, cost a fortune. we used dry milk, very pricy, cocoa powder, chocolate pudding (you're using powdered milk, thickens the hot cocoa) he also made plastic teaspoons dipped in hot cocoa with marshmallows . you could also add a shake of cinnamon or chili powder to add a twist to it.

Lynnie and BakerMom. Very interesting ideas. I will certainly try these too. See I knew our QB members would have great ideas. Thanks!

This is the recipe I used to use:

8 quart box (10-2/3 cups)Carnation brand powdered milk
6 ounces non-dairy ccreamer (Coffee-Mate)
1 one-pound container of Nestle's Quick
2/3 cup (or more)powdered sugar

mix well. Store in a covered container.

To serve: place 1/3 cup (or more) in a cup and add hot water

Instead of nondairy creamer, which ai can't eat, I used powered red milk, then add cinnamon, nutmeg, eggnog powder, instant coffee and cinnamon make Mexican style coffee, etc.

I made this! I went to Costco and bought their big jug of chocolate milk mix, added a bit of cinnamon (just guessed!) and some chopped chocolate chips (threw them into a blender/food processor) put it into jars and covered with Christmas fabric and voila! I hope the recipients like it. It tasted really good to me.

I received a hot chocolate mix from a niece a few years go. Here is her recipe-
2 cups powdered milk
1/4 cup cocoa
1 cup powdered sugar
1/3 cup powdered non dairy creamer
(and/or 2 tablespoons malted powder)
Use 1/2 cup mix to 8 oz. water

She placed this mix into jars and handed them out at Xmas.
Hope this is what you were looking for.

Oh! I hope I remember to look for cute jars this year and do this for my bee. What a terrific idea!

I am making a chocolate lovers gift I saw on Pintrest. You buy the clear glass ornaments and wash them. You fill them with hot chocolate mix to make individual cups of hot chocolate. You can buy mini marshmallows(smaller than the ones in a bag) and add them. I add all kinds of things to the mix. I bought several flavors of mix packets. I am adding some chocolate covered spoons too.

Wow! Girls you have given me so many ideas. I went to the store yesterday and bought a bag full of different things to try. We will be celebrating Christmas on Christmas afternoon and I plan on trying lots of them. Jane...Never thought of Koolaid as flavoring but sounds interesting. Might try that too. I have put many things in clear Christmas bulbs but never thought of using it for Hot Chocolate mix. I have a new box of them and think I will try it this afternoon. Can't do much else.. It's raining with sleet mixed in. I guess I should be grateful that is all it is. We were to get really bad weather starting with rain, rain/sleet mix, ice and then ending with several inches of snow. I'll take the rain. Meanmom, I was just at our local Bergner dept store and saw the spoons there for $2.00 each. That is the cheapest I have seen. I am putting that on my to do list for next year. Thanks once again to all. Carol

I just make a standard one, but I don't use the coffee creamer. Don't like it because it sort of makes me sick. I use powdered skim milk. This year, I mixed in mini chocolate chips and in some I put in the peppermint/chocolate chip combo chips. I saw snowflake shaped marshmallows at Williams Sonoma but they were a fortune. As they were large, I figured I could use giant marshmallows, cut them in half, roll them out, and use my snowflake cookie cutter which is exactly the shape of the WS marshmallows. I gotta tell ya, they looked almost exactly like the more expensive ones. Then I put them into cello bags and tied them with red ribbon such like the 'store bought' ones.

Add cappacinno (spelling) mix for a really nice mocha, miniature marshmallows, cinnamon cocoa is always good too

This is the recipe I have used for years. It is easy to make and keeps well. You can make it for diabetics and substitute Splenda (or other sweetener) for sugar.
HOT COCOA MIX
2 cups non-dairy creamer 1 1/2 cup sugar 3/4 cup baking cocoa
1/2 cup powdered milk
Mix together well and store in an airtight container. Use 2-3 heaping tablespoons of mix in a cup and add 1 cup boiling water or to your taste.

Makes great gifts.
