This is what comes up for kifli. It looks equally good but seems to have a different feel. Maybe only a different shape. Either way, you are all making me want some. Thanks for sharing.

When in college I learned to make kraut runzas. they remind me a little of the above posted recipes.

These are wonderful cookies and you can get all of the instructions at recipegoldmine.com. We make ours with almonds or pecans.

cut your squares,[ think in diamond shape]
put your 1 tbs of filling in 1/3 center
fold over ends, then start with the short end and roll
over by hand like an eggroll, enchilada, or teaques
then bake
sorry if it is not clear

you don't have to fold the ends over
just mash the ends close
i don't want the nuts falling out
the pics are great, thanks

My mom's family was Hungarian and these are always a must at Christmas

We used to fill them with chopped leftover meats and a dash of bbq sauce, sweet &sour sauce, or even just a splash of Worcestershire sauce. We also filled some with leftover ground sausage and a little white gravy. Yummy.

bakermom 01-07-2017 07:17 PM

We use nut filling and apricot. Mom used lekvar too but I don't care for it.

Sandra-P 01-15-2017 05:23 AM

These look so good. I make something like them but use a jar of mincemeat for the filling.

craftymatt2 01-15-2017 01:18 PM

Yummy, I love these, I make them with apricot, and a cheese filling, and raspberry

Mariposa 01-15-2017 01:37 PM

Our Kifli is similar -- and oh so good.
Filling Ingredients:</SPAN></SPAN>
1/ 2 cube of melted butter</SPAN></SPAN>
1 c. ground walnuts </SPAN></SPAN>
1/2 c. of honey </SPAN></SPAN>
1/2 c. sugar </SPAN></SPAN>
1/2 c. milk (or more as needed to thin the mixture) </SPAN></SPAN>
2eggs</SPAN></SPAN>

Filling Directions:</SPAN></SPAN>
Put the first five ingredients in a large pan. </SPAN>Mix on low heat, stirring constantly until mixture begins to bubble (this is like a nut custard) Remove from heat and add the eggs one at a time.</SPAN> Cool to lukewarm</SPAN></SPAN>

Dough INGREDIENTS:</SPAN></SPAN>
2 cups flour</SPAN></SPAN>
½ teaspoon salt</SPAN></SPAN>
½ cup butter</SPAN></SPAN>
½ cup shortening</SPAN></SPAN>
1-8oz package cream cheese</SPAN></SPAN>

Dough DIRECTIONS:</SPAN> </SPAN>
Sift together flour and salt. </SPAN>Cut shortening and butter into flour.</SPAN> Soften cream cheese and blend into flour mixture. Place dough in refrigerator to chill</SPAN></SPAN>
Roll out on lightly floured cloth or board to 1/8” thickness. Cut into 3” squares with a pastry cutter . </SPAN>Place about 1 tablespoon of filling in one corner and roll – curve slightly into a half moon shape.</SPAN></SPAN>
Put on a baking sheet, brush lightly with water and sprinkle with sugar (the latter is optional). Bake 425[SUP]o[/SUP]</SPAN> for 10-12 minutes (or until lightly brown) </SPAN> Cool on a rack</SPAN></SPAN>
