Kuerig coffee maker
I have had one for about a yr now.....the smallest one...does not have a reservoir. Anyway, also have the little containers where you put in your own coffee (6) instead of buying prepackaged.......I usually fill them all, keep in little shelf unit I bought for that reason...then wash as I go and keep filling as I go...anyway. This morning a brainstorm! Added a pinch of cinnamon to each as I filled with coffee grounds.....thinking wonder what else I could add...international coffee powders, powdered creamers.....has anyone else come up with some interesting mixtures.....I do, occasionally splurge and buy the prepackaged, but that can get mighty costly.......

I have used Keurigs in office for ages. Never had luck with DIY as people leave a big mess. But it might be fun to do cinnamon as you suggested, pumpkin spice, instant hot chocolate, pulverized vanilla bean or hazelnuts, ground pecans and then add honey instead of sugar, caramel candy, peppermint candy (or stick a stick in the coffee) ...
Hmmmmm yum! |
My husband bought me a Keurig for Christmas last year. It lasted for 4 months. Now I'm back to my 20 year old Mr. Coffee that is still working.
|
I have a Mr Coffee Keurig. Love it.

Hmmm
how about nutmeg, I wonder what powdered cocoa would taste like? Try some pumpkin pie spice too. Let us know what you come up with and how it comes out |
Try hot chocolate mix!
|
I have the little Kuerig like yours that my children got me for Christmas last year. I also use the refillable pods. I never thought of adding cinnamon. I like to grind my coffee fresh and it took a bit to find just the right consistency that the Kuerig likes but once I found that no problem. I like flavored coffees so will try the bit of cinnamon or pumpkin pie spice to the mix.
|
I have the little Kuerig in my sewing room and I have the refillable pods. I will definitely try some of the above suggestions. I love the flavored coffee's and I often buy the beans from the bulk bins at the grocery store, grind my own and store them in ziploc bags. I love trying all the flavors and you can buy just a scoop to try it out. The decaf beans are great too. My husband uses the Bunn in the kitchen for making is coffee, its like mud, yuck!

Call the company - they may send you a new one. Mine died and when I called they said it was still under warranty. The only thing I had to do was send them the cup holder thingy and a brand new machine arrived at my door. I love my Keurig - have one at home and at work - and I was VERY impressed with their customer service. Give it a try.
|
...yes.....I know I have some pumpkin pie spice in my spice rack....when I used to bake.........I will try that in my second cup this morning........it was snowing here this morning....boohoo!!!!!
|
Hey Geri, I like the way you think! I never thought of trying these ideas but will definitely do so now! :)
|
I am a purist. I do not want anything in my coffee except coffee. I like the different strengths and the different roasts, but no flavoring for me.

Kuerig coffee maker
Love my Keurig; have had it for a couple years. It's a commercial one. I buy my k-cups from Sams and a box of 80 is 39.97 (approx.) and that's about 49-50 cents a piece. I can live with that. I buy Green Mountain in the Breakfast Blend flavor. Then all I want is 1/2 and 1/2 (usually f/free). Sooooo good. Will buy another if/when this one goes out.
|
Kuerigs don't last long, but if you buy them from Bed Bath & Beyond they will replace them every time. I have returned several.
|
A Hint if you Kuerig does not want to work for you... This happened to us just a week ago (same day the water heater went out -- the Kuerig was more upsetting :) -- I googled Kuerig not working the answer was take off all loose parts, go to your sink turn coffee maker upside down and "spank the bottom" put parts back on plug. Yes it work. And still going knock on wood. If yours stops work give this trick a try.

Replying to Cash's Mom, call Kuerig customer service. Your machine was fairly new and when I had the same thing happen Kuerig sent me a new one. Also sign up for their emails. Very often they have sales and special deals. A good company with a good product.

I love my Keurig! When we lived on the farm (well water) I had to descale often (with vinegar), and the head clogged often - had to poke a straightened-out paper clip up into where the heated water bursts out. When we moved to town, and using the filtered water from the fridge, I have not yet had to descale, and have had no clogs!
We have some go-to flavours but also enjoy the specialty flavours, as well as apple cider and tea. I found the cups that you fill with your own grind, didn't clean out and didn't taste as nice. But I didn't experiment with different grinds either. |
Keurigs are great, but you must use distilled water. My water was so mineralized that I had to always use distilled water.
|
I use pumpkin pie spice in mine
|
You do have to clean them once in awhile, depends on how much you use it. My husband said that if it take more than 2 minutes to brew it's time to get the vinegar out!!!
|
If your Keurig is under one year old, contact the company....they will replace it. As for flavorings, I buy Dunkin' Donuts French vanilla coffee and use half a little keurig cup of that and half of my regular Folgers....delicious! I find using flavored coffees full strength is just too much, too strong.
|
Put a little cayenne in the cocoa mix--adds a new zing.

Since I love the Star Bucks Christmas Blend so I use the personal cup for it. I also use the little filters because it seems the grounds get thru in it and I greatly dislike grounds in my coffee. I also like using my Keurig for tea, hot and iced tea. I love the personal k-cup for that.

I have had a Kuerig for years. I used to use the refillable pods. Until I found a different item at Meijers. It is a small mesh bag or pouch attached to a silicone ring. You put coffee in the mesh and set ring on mug. Dispense water from Kuerig. Remove the filter and dump and rinse. No lids to break off. Will hold any amount of coffee or whatever you want. Works great for loose tea too.

I have refilled my pods for years. I purchase my refill supplies from my-cap.com They have the disposable pods, filters, and caps. I reuse the pods several times before I replace it with a new one. (they usually come 100 in a pack)
The caps are made of hard plastic and will last for years. Check out the videos on you tube. I like the idea of adding pumpkin pie spice and cinnamon to the coffee - I never thought of that. Yesterday at HyVee I purchased a box of Gevalia Caramel Macchiato K-Cups and it is delicious! It even makes the frothy top. I also purchased a French Vanilla Cappuccino and was pleased with that one too. |

Hi there. I'm visiting and saw your post. I will have to send you some flavors to try. It can be coffee and just flavored.

I would think you would not need a Keurig for this gadget, merely a pot of hot water and pour into cup slowly...or did I read something wrong? Might look into that little thing

I also have the Mr. Coffee Keurig. I have had it for 3.5 yrs. love it! I'm not a big coffee drinker though so it's perfect for when i want a cup now and then.
|
I have the large Cuisinart for K-cups and it comes with a plastic fill your own pod that stores in the side of the machine. I use it to mix my own herbal tea blends - vanilla rooibos with strawberry rooibos or whatever tickles my fancy at the moment.
I used to have a Tassimo and the hot chocolate syrup clogged it to the point where it could not be used, despite me cleaning it every time. Mind you, I got 4 years out of that machine. |
