Looking for hot spice winter drinks that are non-alcoholic.
I love spiced drinks for the winter, but I only have two recipes. I am looking for a little variety. :D Can't have alcohol in them because of a heart problem. If you have any to share, please do.
Thanks, Becky. |
Here's my favorite. The "spice" is from cinnamon red hot candies.
• 2 quarts water • ¾ cup orange juice • 2 cups pineapple juice • ¼ cup lemon juice • ¾ cup sugar • 2 quarts cranberry juice cocktail • 8 oz. cinnamon candies (“red hots”) • 4 tea bags In a large pan, heat everything except the teabags. Bring to a simmer and stir to ensure the cinnamon candy is melted. Add the teabags and simmer for at least 10 minutes. Remove the teabags and serve hot. You can put in a warm crockpot to keep hot for a longer period of time. Cinnamon candy canes can be substituted for the red hots if necessary. |
Russian Tea, easy and very tasty
Ingredients 2 cups orange-flavored drink mix (e.g. Tang) 2 cups white sugar 1/4 cup instant tea powder 3/4 cup lemon-flavored instant tea powder 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground cloves Directions 1. In a large bowl, combine orange drink mix, sugar, tea powder, cinnamon and cloves. Mix well and store in an airtight container. 2. To serve, put 3 teaspoons of mix in a mug. Stir in 1 cup boiling water. Adjust to taste. |
Just leave out the alcohol.

My daughter loves my hot spiced cider. I just put a gallon of apple cider in the crock pot, add 4 cinnamon sticks, 20 whole cloves, and a little brown sugar to taste. Turn on high for about an hour to heat, then down on low. We will have some tomorrow for our Christmas Eve gathering. It's easy and good, and makes the house smell great too.

I make this every fall and everyone loves it. If you can't find cranberry jell-o any other powdered cranberry powdered mix works(Crystal Light)
Mix in container: 2 packages sugar-free cranberry jell-o or 6 Crystal Lights 1 package pineapple jell-o, sugar free, if possible, but hard to find 1 package sugar-free orange jell-0 1 T. ground cloves Put into airtight container and mix 1 T. with hot water. This is my own recipe and I just make it to taste, so I'm not sure of the measurments. Just play around with it until the taste is right. If it is not sweet enough add some splenda. |
Sorry, forgot it also has about 1/2 cup instant tea.

4 cups apple juice or cider
2 cup cranberry juice 2 cup pineapple juice stud an orange with a few cloves 1 or 2 cinnamon sticks Put in crock pot on high for one hour and low for a few more hours. Remove orange and cinnamon sticks. Leftovers can be refrigerated and heated in the microwave whenever you want a warm treat. |
My friend always makes a drink she calls "witches Brew"...it is absolutely delicious!
It is simply 2 parts apple cider and 1 part orange juice, heated, served in mugs with a cinnamon stick. Very good, very simple!!! |
What about hot lemonade?

My dear mother in law passed away 1 month ago. She always made a simple but tasty of apple cider. In large coffee maker (30 cup), put in 1 large jug of apple cider, 1 qt. cranapple juice, small package of cinnamon red hots (don't worry, they will melt and turn into liquid), and a couple of sticks cinnamon. Simple and delicious.

I make this every year:
CHRISTMAS WASSAIL 2 Qt. Apple Juice or Apple Cider 5 Sticks Whole Cinnamon 11 Whole Cloves 3 6-oz. cans orange juice (frozen) 2 6-oz cans lemonade (frozen) 1 Cup Sugar 2 Cup Water Boil sugar & water for 10 minutes. Add spices, remove from heat & let stand for 3 hours or overnight. When ready to use, strain out spices, add juices & 10 cans water & apple juice or cider. Heat & serve. (My son will drink it cold also.) |
I just heat up apple cider and cut up some oranges to float in the pot. Add some mulling spices in a cheesecloth or cinnamon sticks. I get the mulling spices from Cracker Barrel and I think maybe WalMart has them too now. I need to get some for Christmas morning at my sons house. YUMMY Thanks for making me remember it.

Thank you everyone for these wonderful recipes. I now have to make a grocery store run in the morning. LOL. I really like the "dry" ingredient mix. I think they would make wonderful gifts for the holidays. Again Thank you everyone & Merry Christmas to you all.

Here's one I posted on my blog. I'm making a batch today to give my DIL for Christmas.

I have made hot apple cider for large groups.
In pot 2 gallons apple cidder, cinnamon stick 6-8, 4 tsp. lemonade drink mix,5 tsp. orange drink mix, 10 cloves, 1/2 ts all spice,1/4 tsp. nutmeg. Heat in lg. pot stove (or crock pot) for 2 hrs. Then i put into a 30 cup or so coffee pot to keep warm. The cloves, cinnamon stick or powder, all spice whole go into a cotton cloth and tied -it is like a tea bag, in the boiling water - take out before putting in coffee pot, can strain if you want. Last a group most of the night. |
All these sound wonderful!!

I agree with the hot lemonade, it's not spicy but wonderful on cold days and nights. I make a pitcher full, the heat a cup at a time in the microwave. Soothing for a sore throat, also.

I mix equal part of apple juice, orange juice and cranberry juice and add a mull spice bag to it.

Honey Apple Tea:
5 tea bags; 1/3 cup honey; 3 cups boiling water; 3 cups unsweetened apple juice. In a 2 quart pot, brew tea bags in boiling water. Remove tea bags, add honey & apple juice. Simmer until hot. Ladle into cups & garnish with lemon slices. Makes 6-8 servings. |
I found individual mulling spice bags our local orchard. They are the size of tea bags and you can use them in a single mug of cider. You can use them a couple of times. When we ran out, my husband made something similar with a piece of cinnamon stick, cloves and nutmeg in a tea ball.
