Mayonaise Biscuits

My mama makes these and they are terrific. And, so easy.

1 1/4 cups Self rising flour
1 cup milk
3 heaping Tbls mayonaise

Mix altogether and spoon into greased muffin tins. Bake at 350 degrees until done. Enjoy with any meal.

Sounds easy and tasty.

Nanny's dollface 10-15-2013 06:55 PM

Sounds yummy...anything with mayo must be good ! Lol

carol40965 10-15-2013 07:07 PM

I made those when my children were small but I added 1 tsp sugar. They are very tasty and the ingredients are readily available. I'm going to have to make some.

CherryPie 10-15-2013 07:08 PM

I'll have to give them a try. DH is getting tired of those bisquits that you get out of those tubes you whack on the counter!! lol Thanks for sharing your mama's recipe with us.

Sounds like my kinda recipe. I'll have to try it. And thanks for sharing.

tlambing 10-16-2013 09:35 AM

I'll have to try this one.
I have a very similar recipe for sour cream biscuits.

That sounds good. If it ever cools down here, I'm going to bake some.

Thanks for bringing back memories for me. I used to make these as a young bride (more years ago than I want to admit). I think I need to try them again. They're quick, easy, and very good!

We used to call those whops. Cause you have to whop them on the counter to open them. They have their own place in the cooking world. I love to mash them out flat and........ oh!! That is a whole new recipe that I'll share later. heheheh!

Thanks for the recipe. Love that mayo!

On a similar note, I have found that adding 1/3 cup mayonnaise or Miracle Whip to the Jiffy cornbread mix (without taking away or changing any other ingredient) makes a world of difference in the finished cornbread! Great to serve with chile and soups this time of year.

How do I save this entry for a later reference? I see two things I want to try sometime and won't remember the recipes when I do decide to make some biscuits or corn bread--a not very often occasion (spell?) at this house....

Oh yum.. I think these biscuits sound wonderful.. and so easy.. I usually have all the ingredients in the house... I'm going to try them soon..

oh.. I mix one box of Jiffy Cornbread with one box of Jiffy yellow cake mix.. add all the stuff from both packages, bake in a 9 X 13 pan.. and you have the most tender sweet cornbread ever.. Love that Jiffy!

I had never heard of 'mayonnaise' biscuits, but made this recipe last night---tho't adding grated cheddar cheese sounded good. OH MY, they were delicious--just too many "muffin biscuits" for two old folks. Will halve the recipe next time. Thanks for introducing me to this recipe!

You are welcome. You can put the left overs in a zip lock bag and then reheat in the microwave too.

Sour Cream Biscuits
1/2 lb Butter (2 sticks,melted)
2 Cups self rising flour
1 Cup Sour Cream

Mix all ingredients together, just until combined. Fill muffin tins 2/3 full
Bake at *350 until golden brown. About 25 minutes
Batter will yield about 10-12 biscuits.

I usually halve this recipe and bake them dropped by heaping Tablespoon into a cookie sheet. Instead of using the muffin tin.

They are great with savory meals and scrumptious with strawberry jam as well. I've even used them as shortcakes with fresh strawberries.

Add some grated cheddar to the mayonnaise biscuits - wonderful!

pennycandy 10-26-2013 10:43 PM

Tried the mayo biscuit recipe in a muffin tin. They have an interesting texture, like a cross between a biscuit and a muffin. It's a great recipe if you want to whip up a quick batch of biscuits.
