Measuring baking pans -

A question:

What measurements do you use?

For example:

A bread pan measures 4 x 8 on the bottom and 5 x 9 inches on top

Here you go!

I have a copy of similar conversions in my recipe book. This was quicker to find. LOL!

I use the measurement that is usually stamped on the bottom of the pan. Do you have pans that aren't marked? For most of the baking I do, close enough works.

When I started baking bread, I found out there is a difference between a bread pan and a meatloaf pan. The bread pan is narrower.

Interesting....never gave it much thought. I just always grab the same pans for the same things. I have banana bread pans, both large, and mini, bread pans and a meatloaf pan. Creature of habit I guess. Good to know though.

I remember size of my pans. Didn't know there was a meatloaf pan. For that I use a 9x13" pan as I always double the recipe and want it done faster.

That’s probably why my banana bread never turns out right....

One of the "down" sides of "church" cookbooks.

The writer "knows" - but sometimes does not include some of the mundane details in the recipes.

Which happened when I made cookbooks for my kids. I am still finding errors and omissions - that were completely unintentional.
