Meatballs

I made 7# meatballs for DH’s birthday when family was here. I’m always looking for food to make ahead when they come.
Been asked 2x since for recipe. Mom & Grandma made these.

Mix in large bowl then cover & refrigerate overnight
Ground beef. 1#
Worchestershire sauce 1/2 tsp.
Salt. 1 tsp.
Minced onion. about 1
Thyme & Marjoram. Pinch of each
Bread 2 slices, torn up. Stale is fine
Egg. 1 slightly beaten
Flour. 2 Tblsp
Black pepper. 1/2 tsp
Evaporated milk. 1 cup

Heat fry pan & add enough oil to brown meat. Use 2 serving spoons to form meatballs. Do not roll in hands, it packs them too much. Ease into hot pan & brown on both sides. Don’t crowd in pan. When browned, transfer to oven dish to finish in oven. At this point they can be frozen for later. I use an envelope of brown gravy on top. Yellow bag, makes 2 cups.

That sounds good. When you say you use an envelope brown gravy on top, is that prepared as on package, or just sprinkled dry? And is it as you getting ready to serve? or as you are freezing? Or when you put in the oven?

Gravy is prepared from package and added on top of meat when it goes in the oven (or crockpot). Sorry for leaving that out.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll have to try this for sure.

That sounds like a good meatball recipe. I have a recipe that I make up but I bake mine and put in the freeze and it is ready to go when company or family stops by.

I make mine pretty plain. Bread crumbs (to it feels right) onions, and ground beef mixed with 1/4 ground sausage. Nothing fancy.

If you are not using eggs, what holds them together? The sausage?
