My DIL in the UK introduced me to vanilla pods...you can buy them in the store and they are to die for..you open the pod and scrape out the vanilla...it is wonderful tasting..she couldnt believe that I had never seen vanilla pods before LOL
It is sssssooooooo much better than ours. You have to use it. If not send it to me. hehehehe

La Vencedora is the best brand. Mexican vanilla is water-based, rather than alcohol-based, so it doesn't cook out like American vanilla does. I've used it for 40 years and wouldn't use anything else. It doesn't taste different, unless you mean better. :)
Also, I keep a tall, skinny glass container with sugar with a couple of vanilla beans in it. That way I always have vanilla sugar handy. The vanilla beans last a long time, so you can just replace the sugar as needed. |
My mom's favorite! If you can get your hands on it, go for it.
Love it. Buy it when I have a source to get it. It is sold in liquor stores in Mexico (or was). My oldest daughter tries to steal all I have. The younger DD can't stand it. Go figure.

That's how I feel. My 3rd DD brought some home from the Dominican Republic and it had the same weird taste. I gave it to my oldest DD. |
that I all I use I did get it when I traveled to Mexico but now I buy it at a local Mexican market here in Hburg
Be careful, it's strong don't use too much |
Mexican Vanilla
I have used Mexican Vanilla for years. You use it just like you would use regular vanilla. Mexican Vanilla is pure vanilla NOT imatation vanilla and it is a bit stronger than most vanilla you would by in the states. I get mine from Mexico, and I only buy the vanilla with the red rooster on it.

I use it all the time if it's pure vanilla don't use anymore than calls for it is strong but really good
I use it all the time. I love it because it is stronger. You can use half as much but I use the same amount given.
I've used Mexican vanilla for years and love it. To me it is a little stronger than regular vanilla extract, but I like that. I was usually adding extra to recipes anyway.
I have used this product alot I really like it.

6 months. My first batch I used vodka. I have another batch I started about a month ago and this time I used Rum. I poured out some of the rum, and used 4 vanilla beans (beans are split in half lengthwise and inserted into the bottle). Pour the rum back into the bottle. It smells wonderful already!

One empty bottle two long sticks of vanilla add vodka Put it in a dark cupboard for ____ months(I don't remember if it is 3, 6 or more months) Ready to use just like regular vanilla. Great flavor! |
I miss being able to buy it.
mexican vanilla is real vanilla, not the extract that you get in the US. the closest you can get is watkins double strength if you can get it. enjoy.....
I love the Mexican vanilla and use it all the time. I use what the recipe calls for. I think there is a different taste to whatever you put it in but I think it tastes better.
Use it the same as regular vanilla. A friend brought me a big bottle from Mexico a few years ago. I think she paid 2 bucks for it but it was the best vanilla EVER! I sure was sorry to use up the last of it. I got spoiled, it was so good. Enjoy yours.
I agree that it is very good vanilla, and why we can't get it here in the states, is beyond me. It is stronger, but I love the flavor, so just use the same amount asked for.
I have used it and it is very good. Just used the amount called for or a little more because I love vanilla. It's all used up so now I get vanilla from Trader Joe's as it's very good too.
my aunt gave me a big bottle and it is the best!! use and enjoy.. it tastes better....

The main problem with Mexican Vanilla is that some of it contains cumaradina which is the same as cumarin that is given for a blood thinner. I get mine at a local Mexican run store and it says it contains no cumaradina. It does have more flavor than what I can buy at the American stores.
I've used it for years and depending on how much of a vanilla taste you want use the directed amount. I sometimes cut it in half. Not fond of strong vanilla flavor. Watch if it says "artifical". Was given some recently and it was artifical and smelled like keorsene. Threw it out. But I do love the Mexican vanilla for baking.
