Our family can eat for several days. I use a punch bowl to put the salad in.
1 Head Lettuce 1 Cup Chopped Celery 6 Small Onions, Chopped Frozen Green Peas Cooked (Approx. 1 1/2 cups), cooled & drained 1 Cup Mayo 2 Tablespoon Sugar 1 Cup Grated Mild Cheddar Cheese 1/2 lb. Cooked & Crumbled Bacon (or use bacon bits) Mix 1 cup mayo and 2 Tbl. sugar, let sit while layering other ingredients. Layer in deep bowl in order given: lettuce, celery, onions, peas. Spread mayo and sugar mixture over top of peas. Add cheese, then bacon. Cover, and let stand in refrigerate overnight. Serve with french bread (I always get the ends) |
sounds yummy, but doesn't the lettuce get a bit limpy?

yummy, I have made that salad and so good!

This IS an excellent salad!!!

I have made that salad and it is yummy.

The salad is usually eaten before anything has time to get limpy. I like it mainly because I don't have to cook again for a few days.

My cousin brought this salad to a family potluck. It was covered with foil and went into the oven with the rest of the stuff that needed to be kept warm. I do not recommend baking, but it did make for a funny family story!

I love it and make it often

I love this salad, too. But I use the green peas frozen, right out of the package. Yummy. And the lettuce doesn't wilt.

We call this "7 layer salad" at my house. (You have 6 layers in yours.) Our 7th is chopped hard cooked eggs. Same dressing and layering, the eggs go on top with the bacon and cheese. DH LOVES this salad, and you're right, it lasts for several meals and doesn't get soggy! Yummy summer supper.
