Mock Pecan Pie Recipe?????

I think I remember seeing a recipe for a pie that's made like a pecan pie but used something else in place of the pecans. With the cost of pecans now-a-days I was just wondering plus I have a friend who cannot eat nuts but loves the pecan pie filling.

I used to make a mock apple pie using crackers which was pretty good. I found this recipe for mock pecan pie using oats.

MissEva ... you could make it without the nuts ... just mix up more filling, to fill the pie crust.

If you wanted add-ins ... cherries, coconut, raisins, craisins, other nuts (yes, an allergy issue, unless by chance there is one that is OK)

Good suggestion, QuiltAddict!!
... I've made this pie before and it is quite delicious.

MissEva ... Just don't tell anyone that it is made from oatmeal or they turn up their nose without trying it.
Granted, that could be good ... as there'd be more for you! :D

I have seen a recipe for mock pecan pie and it used crushed pretzels in place of the pecans. The best I can remember , everything else was the same as the pecan pie recipe.

Make it the same as regular pecan pie but use 3/4 cup grape nuts cereal. You will swear you are eating pecan pie,

My step mother had a tart recipe that was just like pecan pie. In some she put 1 whole half pecan and in the others she put 3 or 4 raisins. I actually liked the raisin ones better. HTH

I have had a pie that was made with Ritz crackers and chopped walnuts that was WICKED good. Not the mock apple pie.

Here is one that I copied the other day because a lady I work with is allergic to nuts. Haven't tried it yet.

Faux Pecan Pie

Filling
4 Eggs
1-1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup plus 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled
3/4 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
Deep Dish Pie Shell, unbaked
Topping
1-1/2 cups crushed pretzels
3 T butter, melted
2 T sugar
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350.
For Filling:Place first five ingredients in large mixing bowl and mix with wire whisk until well combined.
Pour into pie shell.
Combine all topping ingredients in medium bowl and stir well with a spoon to coat pretzels.
Sprinkle topping evenly over pie.
Bake in 350 oven for 1 hour, covering with foil after 30 minutes to prevent over browning.
Allow to cool completely before serving. Can be made a day or two ahead of time and stored in refrigerator.

Thanks ladies for all your help. I tried the one with GrapeNuts - but without a recipe and used a full cup and didn't soak them before putting in pie. GrapeNuts taste was very strong plus it soaked up my filling. Tried it with oats, couldn't taste them BUT you could feel the oats. Think I'll try toasting the oats before adding them to my pie and maybe blending them a little. I'll try the pretzels next. I also toasted a cup of coconut and used that and it makes a really good pie.

A friend and I used to make one with oatmeal for some people who couldn't have nuts. It was very good. Make sure there's a little butter in your filling.

A great big THANK YOU to sassy granny for her suggestion to use pretzels. I tried it last night & took it to church and my pastor complemented me on the pecan pie! When I told him what was in it he was flabbergasted. I used the recipe from on line - but next time I'll just make my regular pecan pie recipe and use a cup of crushed pretzels. The recipe calls for 1-1/2 cup pretzels, 2 Tablespoons Butter and 2 Tablespoons Sugar stirred together and sprinkled on top of the filling. One thing that fools you is the fact that the pretzels have the same texture as pecans after they're cooked - you know - sorta' crunchy?

My mom used to make an oatmeal pie that tasted like pecan pie. I'll get the recipe and post ASAP. We used to call it "poor man's pecan pie."
