Here is how I make this frosting. First dump in some powdered sugar then add about 2 heaping TBSP's of Crisco then pour in a little milk I use skim. Get a butter knife and start to mix. It will be stiff at first add some more sugar and then a little more milk keep stirring with the knife. If you are going to frost a 13 x 9" cake you can start out with about a cup of powdered sugar and a fourth of a cup of crisco. Use the same method adding little milk at a time. I have done this a million times and it always turns out right. This is how my mom made it. If you want chocolate icing add a couple tablespoons of baking cocoa and use hot water for your liquid. Good luck girls.
Also if make too much you keep it in frig in a tightly covered container. |
My all time favorite is just use all butter  One pound of 10X sugar, 1/4 pound butter or margarine, teas extract of choice and add milk by teas. then whip, whip whip.. yummm...not white but tasty :D

MMmmmmmmmm. Now I'm thinking about baking a cake -- just to hold up the frosting!!!! :D :D

Here's my recipe, hope it's the one you're looking for.
2 lbs. confectioners sugar 1 1/4 C Crisco solid shortening 1/2 C water 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 capful of creme bouquet ( may be purchased @ cake decorating supply store, I think Wilton carries it also) Or flavoring of your choice. If using oil flavoring, use only 2 drops. Beat 25 minutes, not continuously (you could burn up your mixer) Finished product is pure white and delicious! By the way, I'm a young 55!!! Let me know if this what you're looking for. For chocolate frosting add: 1 C cocoa or a couple of squares of baking chocolate or both. |
Thanks everyone for helping me.
I have them all printed out. Now, I have to STOP making the chickens so I can make a cake! :) |
Terri, I just got an email from Baking Delights & if you can bring it up on your comouter this may be the icing you are looking for. Baking Delights<[email protected]. It is a newsletter Mary Audlt puts out every few days. Other than the tea, this may be what you want. If you can't get it, pm me & I will forward it to you when you send me your email address. This is what I make. It's what my mom made and does not require any cooking. The only thing is I don't ever measure anything......so will try to give you an accurate idea of how much to put in.....it is delicious (much better than the stuff that comes in the can)
a whole box of powdered sugar one egg a tablespoon or so of vanilla about a half cup of shortening That's it-----mix up with your mixer (too thick?--add just a little water until it's the right consistency) Yes, you can lick the bowl! |
They don't recommend eating raweggs or egg whites.

Hi,
I'm actually new here. I live in Los Alamos, NM. I've been eavesdropping for a couple of years now and love "listening" to your conversations. I don't quilt much, I'm learning. I finally have something to contribute... cooking of course. There is a Crisco website with many many recipes, some that I remember from long ago. crisco.com/recipes. they aren't necessarily the most "healthy," but look like they taste really good. I hope that this helps. |
