We are having a family get-together memorial day and I would like to take something besides a sliced ham. I have been taking ham for the last few years. We just had ham for Easter and I would like something different. Does anyone have a favorite dish for a potluck dinner. Thank you so much for any ideas or recipes.

The skillet chili Mac that is listed in this blog is very good.
http://www.skiptomylou.org/recipes-2/ And I ran across a very good beef recipe out of a cookbook at the library that is very easy & very good! Thin small steaks pounded to almost paper thin 1 can of black olives 1 tin of anchovies...I know I know...but bare with me 1-2 TBSP capers. Chopped Garlic to taste Black Pepper to taste You really don't need salt as the anchovies will take care of that. Make a paste out of everything with your food processor and smear ~ thats a technical cooking term ~ right? =) on the steaks. cook them in a skillet or your favorite pan on the stove top. I always use half EVOO & butter. These are ridiculously delicious. And you can use cheaper cuts of meat because you start out with them thin. |

Do you have a smoker? We just smoked a turkey breast and it was awesome! Injected the breast with lemon juice, evoo and lemon pepper seasoning. We used crabapple wood and in the water pan, I put apple & orange juice with sliced up oranges and lemons, a bay leaf and some ground cloves, and a little wine  and let it go.
You could do, chickens, a whole turkey, ribs, etc. Good eats!!! |
that sounds good will buy some ribs and make them, thanks for the recipe

Thanks everyone, for the recipes. It sounds like you are good cooks. I have ribs and turkey breast in the freezer and the steak recipe sounds very interesting. Did you use round steak or sirloin or something else.

If you want a salad I have great recipe. It has romaine, sunflower seeds, mozz cheese, apples, and a sort of poppy seed dressing. Really easy to make. Let me know.

swedish meatballs, ii love them, way back in the old days (when i was a kid, lol) someone always brought a pot of "picnic burgers" which were hamburgers made in the kitchen in a gravy, then carried to the picnic. someone always brought lemon squares, too. I like cukes too. wash then slice them fairly thin, skin on, soak for an hr in very cold salted (brined water -it draws out what makes them limp), rinse well. then mix water and cider vinegar to just cover cukes amt cut up, sugar to taste (just a LITTLE sweet) and a bunch (I mean, a nice handful)of fresh dill (I grow it in a kitchen garden) chop fine, stir in. Very refreshing if you keep the bowl in a little ice. sharet

I would suggest pulled pork. Take a large pork roast and rub it with Applewood seasoning rub. Put it in your crock pot on highto cook fasted or low if you have several hours. Do not add anything else---not even liquids. If on high in about 6-7 hours the pork will be shred easily. Have favorite BBQ ready on the side and some buns for those who like it on a bun. Honestly, this simple recipe will be a hit for you.

I do...waving hand .......please, send in the recipe. Sounds delicious!

Do you have a roaster? I buy the big bags of honey bbq wings at Sams, dump them in and add more bbq sauce. Cover and turn roaster on low to heat them thru. Served these at all my kids graduation parties. big hit.

if you like meatballs, my sauce recipe was a huge hit at my high school grad party. its pretty easy to, all ya do is:
take 2 pound ground beef, mix it with 1 egg, 1/4 cup chopped onions, and 1/2 cup bread crumbs. form them into balls. brown in the oven. while thats browning, combine 1 12oz bottle of chili sauce, 1 can tomato soup, and 1 16oz can cranberry sauce. once meatballs are browned pour the sauce over them and bake at 250 for about 2hours. then you can keep them hot in the crock pot during dinner. |

Hamburger or Hotdog Buns
for 9 rolls 1 egg 7/8 cup milk 4 1/2 tbsp butter 3 tbsp sugar 3/4 tsp salt 3 cups bread flour 1 tbsp yeast Put in order suggested by your bread machine and start on dough cycle. When dough is ready, remove and divide into 9 pieces. Let set while you grease your baking sheets. For hamburger buns shape into round ball then flatten to form a patty about 3 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. For hotdog buns, roll into 6 inch rope and flatten to 1/2 inch thick. Place on baking sheet. Brush with a little mild and sprinkle with seeds if you like. Let raise 20 minutes to an hour depending on the temp of kitchen. Bake at 400 degrees for about 12-15 minutes. Watch closly as they bake fast and get brown fast. My daughter and I never buy buns now that we discovered this recipe unless it is an emergency. |
