no recipe this time, just a question

Would anyone share recipes for diabetes? I just discovered I have it and want to find recipes to use. Thanks

Sorry I don't have any recipes, but I bet you can do a search for diabetic recipes and get some.

I was told that it not just the sugars grams intake you do and watch ..watch your carbs. intakes walk briskly at least 30 mintures a day and lower your carbs intake to 300 grams a day until you get use to that ..Dr say it not what you can`t have it what you can have .. watch your starch..like potatoes .breads.carrots,,ect// and you can have a hershery chocolate candy bar like one bar mini or you can buy one big bar and last 3 days chocolate does not have carbs, sugars only hersherys ,,,,just don`t overdue certain foods ...and you will find as you go along it get easier not so bad as long as you are in control,, go to the local diabetics class they offer at hospital and clinic that help alots and good luck and god bless

Diabetis connect is a good source. You can also google diabetic recipes and find a lot

Don't obsess over it...

I know my doctor would kill me for saying this, but eat what you want - in moderation.

I would have slit my wrists years ago if I'd had to have followed all the diet tips and restrictions that you'll get.

I'm 'assuming' you're Type II (adult onset)?

I'm an insulin-dependent diabetic since 1994 with glucose intolerance preceding that so I have a bit of experience...

Diabetes is NOT a death sentence - manage it as a chronic condition and you'll be fine.

DO monitor your blood sugars (some of the new meters use 'alternate site testing' when some say is 'painless' - I'm pretty old school and still do the finger pricks. Since I have to inject insulin (Lantus) anyway, the finger pricks seem inconsequential...)

oops...sorry...shouldn't have gone into 'preaching' mode...

But - seriously - don't obsess about it and live life normally...

Diabetic Living is a really good magazine. It has health tips and recipes. It's not too expensive. You might go to your local library and see if they have back copies.

The other guys here are absolutly right on. My sister eats what she wants, but very moderate amounts. You can control this very good.

some sites to check out. Hope this helps. You can still have your favorites on occasion but need to balance things out.

I agree with Amiable.Quilter
I am also a diabetic ( diagnosed Aug. 2010)
Eat what you want IN MODERATION,

but walk, walk, & walk.

I did drop most of my bread and sugar
started walking a lot and lost 20 lbs.

Weight loss will do wonders.

I was diagnosed Type II Oct 2010. I checked out all the books on pre diabetes and diabetes from the library. The book I found most helpful was Low-Carb Dieting for Dummies. Wow, it made a huge difference. Six mo later I was back in normal range and doc says if I stay with what I'm doing I've beat diabetes. Didn't know you could beat it but nothing will get back to my old ways. The craving for carbs, sweets, even ice cream GONE!!!! On top of all that good stuff, I have a food plan I devised where I get to have my favorite sandwich daily - a BLT. If I'd known life could be this good, I would have changed my eating habits years ago. My most basic guideline is not to go over 150-160 carb grams a day.
Good luck to you and I hope you find what will help you have a healthy long life.

my hubby has diabetes, he can eat anything except salt and bread! In moderation everything else is okay, he really has it under control by eating smaller portions
