This recipe sounds just too easy, but it works and is delicious!

1 box angel food cake mix
1 large can any fruit or fruit pie filling

Mix together dry cake mix and canned fruit WITH JUICE or pie filling.

Pour into greased 9 by 13 pan.

Bake at 350 for about 30 minutes. Crunchy top, soft middle.

Enjoy and share with friends. Extra good with whipped cream on top.

No eggs? nothing else?? sounds too easy?

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 03-25-2011 09:17 AM

I love this done with crushed pineapple! It is a quick, easy, refreshing cake. I bake mine in a regular angel food pan.

Angel food cakes use only egg whites. Mixes already have egg whites included so only water is needed. History says when cake mixes were first on the market only water was to be added. These did not sell well so eggs, oil and water were then needed. This combination of additions seemed to agree with housewives and they then bought the mixes. Egg yolks will emulsify the oil and water. Whites also have some protein. Angel food rises higher and is less dense and more airy. I used this in in my classes and called it "kitchen chemistry". The kids loved when they could eat the experiments.

Similar recipes include regular cake mix with only diet soda added. Weight Watchers (found this on recipes.com) says to use yellow box mix with diet lemon-lime or white cake mix with orange or cream soda. Haven't tried these but they had many positive reviews. The carbonation makes the rising. Let me know if you try any of these please. :)

sueisallaboutquilts 03-25-2011 01:58 PM

Sounds so good! Can you email me a piece??? lol

BMP 03-25-2011 02:16 PM

I make these recipes all the time, I got them from Weight Watchers. The cake mix and soda recipe will be get lighter and higher if you also add 2 egg whites.

I have made the Weight Watchers recipes for cakes, cake mix, diet soda and have added a package of sugar free jello-example- white cake mix, orange diet soda, orange sugar free jello. Very moist and tasty- I bake mine in cupcakes- one cupcake 2 WW points.

I've made this with crushed pineapple and it's yummy. Now I'll have to try the pie filling.

Help......does one follow the baking times for the box cakes?

Also what size pans do you use for these cakes.

Would love to do one of these for Easter...so reply would be very appreciated.

thanks, all.

Here is a copy of Julianne's original post:

Another post said she uses reg. angel food pans for this also - could probably use any type pan - I'd set the timer for 25 min., then test for doneness by sticking a toothpick in the center & continue baking according to how the pick comes out.

Good luck, have a blessed week end.

lbc 03-26-2011 11:06 AM

Thanks - this is one I'll try.

RkayD 03-26-2011 11:19 AM

try the angel food cake with a can of lemon pie filling...bake at 350 in a 9x13 cake pan that you have sprayed with PAM until it is lightly golden. When it cools a bit give it a light dusting of powdered sugar. cut into squares. The BEST lemon bars!

OHHHHH SOUNDS YUMMY - thanks for the tip

Julianna 03-26-2011 12:32 PM

Friend just told me sometimes she uses an angelfood cake pan too.

Quiltbeagle 03-26-2011 02:00 PM

Will get the ingredients tomorrow and make this. Thank you.

colwoods 03-26-2011 03:48 PM

How much lemon/lime soda do you use in the WW recipe and how long to cook?

BMP 03-26-2011 03:51 PM

You use one regular size can of soda and bake, I am not sure of the time but I just kept cking it.

fabric whisperer 03-26-2011 10:21 PM

Now THIS I gotta try ~ I am allergic to egg yolks, so angelfood cake is one of my few cakes allowed...

Anyone tried the brownies that is:
One package brownie mix
one can black beans

Open and drain the beans. Dump beans in collander, and rinse well to get stickies off. Fill can with cold water, and put water and washed beans into blender. Puree. Add to brownie mix, and hand beat. Put into greased pan and cook as normal per box instructions. Enjoy. These are a WW recipe too! No EGGS! yay! and the beans give extra fiber, so my family calls them "dooky brownies"

auntiehenno 03-27-2011 11:14 PM

Thanks soounds yummy!!

matraina 03-28-2011 08:11 AM

I remember trying the angelfood cake recipe from WW, too. It was good.

Julieanna, I made this cake and it is soooooooooooo good. I bought more cake mixes today and pinapple. I didn't have crushed pinapple, so put chunk into food processer, poured the cake mix in and mixed it all up. Worked great....thanks for sharing. Mary

trisha 03-29-2011 08:07 PM
