Orange jello salad

Hi all, Hope you can help jog my increasingly poor memory. In the 70's used to make a jello salad. Believe it was one pkg. of orange jello, a small container of cottage cheese, a container of whipped topping. Was a can of crushed pineapple also used and/or a drained can of mandarin oranges? Feel the need to go down memory lane, but can't remember where the map is! Thanks.

It sounds like the one we did. We stirred dry jello into the cottage cheese, added the drained fruit then folded in "Dream Whip". That tells you my age.

My younger sister was reading one of my recipes that called for a pkg of "Dream Whip" she asked how much "Cool Whip" would that be?

Do they even make packets of Dream Whip anymore? I believe we're of the same generation!

I think it's pineapple, it would be for me , although I think you could use either one. If you like oranges better, then use oranges. Either way would be good.

I use cool whip and mandarin oranges, drained. Have not made this dessert if a while.

I made it recently with both mandarin oranges and crushed pineapple but found it to be too much liquid. I think I would use one or the other but not both. I used the 8 oz size can of pineapple.

1 pt cottage cheese
1 small package of orange jello (dry)
1 small can crushed pineapple (drained)
1 small can mandarin oranges (drained)
1 8oz container cool whip
Mix all together and enjoy!!!!

We just had someone bring this to the chili night this month. Good dessert for the summer. She used mandarin oranges but I would like it with pineapple too. And she put coconut in it. I told her I would be curious about using ricotta cheese instead of cottage cheese and she said she would try it next time. :) I just cannot leave well enough alone..

Yes, Dream Whip is still available at our grocery store and at our local Walmart.
