Pantry Goulash

Today was a cold icky day. We wanted something warm and hearty for dinner. The pantry pickin's are getting kinda thin. We try to use up stuff in the pantry so it doesn't go to waste or get delegated to the back and forgot. Plus we need the room for the holiday cooking shopping and restocking the pantry.

So dinner tonight consisted of:
1 pound ground beef
1 can of spaghetti sauce
1 small can of tomato sauce
2 boxes of Kraft Mac/Cheese (powdered kind)
some leftover bits of red, green and orange bell peppers
some chopped onion
and a few thinly sliced mushrooms
and two cloves of garlic
a little deep red wine (plus a glass for the chef) and a little sugar
couple dashes of Italian seasoning
a cup of shredded sharp cheddar cheese

brown the ground beef, add onions and peppers along with the garlic, cook till veggies are soft then drain.
add spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce mushrooms. Stir in wine and sugar.
Simmer while preparing the mac/cheese.
prepare the mac/cheese as directed at the end add some shredded cheese, stir till melted.
Add the mac/cheese to the spaghetti mixture and serve.

I made a bit of garlic toast and a small salad to round out supper.

Sounds good.

What a creative use of the ingredients. Most I would have done anyway, except I never thought of putting the mac & cheese in the spaghetti. You've taught me something new. I'm going to have to try your new recipe one of these days.

Now they call it hamburger helper.. When I do that, I call it "garbage" and whatever combo it is, there are no leftovers! Creative cooking

When my friend does this, she calls it "Mustgo" because it's food that "must go". Haha

Ha! I do that a lot, too. Downside is DH will ask me that "stuff you made" last week. um, yeah ok, never have the same leftovers and usually can't tell you how i made it!
