My husband said when he was younger he lived in Fl. A friends mom had cooked a turkey in a paper grocery bag. Has anyone ever heard of this? I thought that maybe the guy meant a plastic bag.

I haven't heard about a turkey cooked in a paper bag...but my Mom used to bake chicken that way...she put rice and cream for chicken soup in with it.......it was cooked on a low temp. it was really good.....the bag helped it to brown.......I wish I knew what temp it was...just remember that it was a low temp. it was soooooo good.........Thanks for the memory !!!!!

I hope we find it. We would like to try it. I also heard of popping corn in the microwave like that too.

It is advised not to pop popcorn in a paper bag in the microwave, it can start a fire

Here is a link to cooking a turkey in a paper bag

However, there seems to be some concern over the materials used in paper bags, being safe for this method

I prefer to use the bags made for turkeys. I cut off the top of the bag towards the end, to allow for more browning :D:D:D

Turkeys have always been cooked that way in my family, was getting harder to find those bags for a while with the use of the plastic ones but now you can find them in the garden section of the hardware stores. Method makes for a nice brown turkey without steaming the bird.

Forgot to mention the bag is cut open, bottom off, place bird on rack in roaster and cover with the bag tucking in the ends.
