Peeling new eggs

FYI-We had a post a while back about how to peel farm fresh hard boiled eggs. I just watched a YouTube video from The Prairie Homestead that shows how to cook then so they peel easily. She has a method that uses steam and tells how to use your instant pot also.

I use our instant pot for eggs all the time, works great and they do peel so much easier.

I'm not a kitchen gadget girl, but a relative bought me an electric hard boiled/soft boiled egg cooker and I love it! If you don't have one, here's how to cook eggs so they peel easily, even when fresh: Place eggs in pan of cold water to cover, on stove, lid on. Bring to full boil, immediately turn off heat. Do not remove lid at all. Leave eggs in the water until it's cool. They'll peel easily.

Probably works well but my instapot is really big and I only boil 3 or 4 eggs at a time, sometimes only one.

You can cook 1 or 20. ;-)

I do mine like I read in Cooks magazine. Bring the water to a boil, and then add your eggs cold from the refrigerator. I use a spoon to put them in the water, because sometimes they will crack. Cool quickly after they are cooked. I have great luck with them peeling easily.

Boil the eggs, then immediately put them in ice cold water....drain and add more ice water. Crack the shells by shaking the pan. Change the water again, if needed. Peel immediately. Another technique I saw was to fill a tall glass half way with ice water place your egg in the glass, cover the top of the glass with your hand and shake, shake, shake for about ten seconds......drain the water and the egg has almost peeled itself.

Another vote for the Instant Pot method but did you know that if you are making egg salad you can break the eggs in a bowl that will fit your instant pot, set it on the trivet, add 1 cup water (for6qt) and cook your eggs and not have to peel them at all. Just remove from bowl and chop.
here is a link, she shows a loaf pan but use what fits your pot.

1-5 eggs.... put into pot and cover with cold tap water . Bring to boil.... full rolls boil.... then cover and remove from heat. After 14 minutes... for large eggs .... drain, cover with ice cubes and coldest tap water and leave about 30 minutes.
For 6 eggs or more... when water comes to boil, boil hard for one minute before covering and removing from heat, then proceed as above.
No dark rings and eggs peel well. Also helps. To use week old eggs.

I just made myself a perfect fresh hard boiled egg in the Instant Pot. The peel
slides right off. I have also made that egg loaf to use in potato salad. Easy peasy

I believe eggs from the store are never fresh. I start with room temp eggs, bring to boil 11 minutes, leave pan on burner but turn heat off. Hard boiled eggs are usually in our refrigerator. Mother had chickens & I recall her setting eggs aside to “age” so they would peel easily.

I agree Tranum. By the time the eggs go from farm to distributor to grocery store shelf they are at least a week old and probably older. I have my own flock of laying hens and I will do like your mother if I can. Age them for a week or so for hard boiled eggs.

I was taught in Home Ec class to put eggs in pan of cold water and bring to boil. Remove from heat and let sit covered for 20 min. The shells pop right off.

I add lots of salt which makes the shells come off easier, and I use vinegar, it prevents a mess if one of them break in the water. It helps them clump so its not as bad and lots of times it can save an egg if its only a crack

Salt the water real good as eggs boil and they will peel right off. An old boyfriend taught me that trick. Also if you plunge the just boiled eggs into cold water immediately, they won't have the green edge around the yolk.

Thanks everyone. I picked all the shells of but will save this thread for next time. I don't have a instant pot yet? I will look after the holidays.

I follow SuzzyQs method. Peel from the wide end.
