i grew pole beans this year. my hubby says they taste woody . is there a difference in cooking them...or picking them? thx

I'm not sure about pole beans, but I love green beans placed in a casserole sprinkled with olive oil, then spices. Microwave 6 - 7 minutes. So very good!!!! And too easy!

Think dry, hot weather might have caused it. Happens to the best of us.

weather has been very nice this last month..wouldnt believe we are in iowa..lol

I just rinse, add some diced onions and bacon grease. With baked chicken, mashed potatoes. Can anyone tell I'm hungry?

The pole beans might be past their prime...a bit old.....or hot sun took all the moisture out.

We have white half runners on a fence in the garden. Wehave had very little rain, so hubby has been watering them religiously and when I get any, they are very good. I imagine the lack of water is what is making them tough. I shell out the tough ones.

the pole beans i grew one yr, were really good. you must have left them too long, before you picked them. a pressure cooker fixes it up tho.

Nobody's beans around here were good this year. Too dry and hot!

Probably the weather.

Add about a teaspoon of sugar to your beans to get the green out.

Yep ours weren't as good this year, and very few of them. Wish we could have watered the garden but when your on a well and it doesnt rain you cant waste water. We got our first measurable rain in 2 months today, about 1/4 of an inch. you should see my acorn squash, about the size of a squirels head. Its a shame. My tomatoes, sun scorched. Ready to plow it all under!

puppy 08-24-2011 06:46 AM

i hear you there...i already pulled up my tomatoe plants. my grape tomatoes were the size of romas
