This is what I get every Christmas from my Mom. This year it won't happen as she has gone blind and no more treats for the oldest daughter. She is 81 and was the chef extraordinaire. Will miss those popcorn balls.

I love them too and hacent made them in years.

I made some last Friday when we returned from the orchard. My recipe came from my original Betty Crocker cookbook. I used to make them every year when my girls were young. This one requires a thermometer because you need to cook the syrup, I guess that's why people prefer sweetened condensed milk.

I make popcorn balls for Halloween. I only give them to the children I know, and the reason is because the parents know me and they also get one. My receipe does not have the brn sugar or milk in it.

Peanut Butter Popcorn Balls 4 qts popcorn 1 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 cup light corn syrup 1 1/2 cup peanut butter (smooth or crunchy) 1 1/2 tsp vanilla Mix sugar & corn syrup in saucepan; bring to a full boil for 30 seconds, stirring constantly. Remove from hear & stir in peanut butter & vanilla. Pour over popped corn & stir to mix well. Grease hands with butter & shape into approximately 16 balls. Let set on waxed paper until cool. Enjoy! |
We make ours with marshmallows instead. They stay softer and are sweet and chewy. The whole family loves them. I also put food coloring in the melted marhmallow mixture and stir before adding popcorn...great for holidays.

I don't remember the recipe that my grandmother made but I do know that it had corn syrup. I think I'll take this recipe and make it with my grandson this week when we have our sleep over. thanks.[/quote]
My family recipe: 2 C sugar 1 C corn syrup 1/2 C water 1 t vanilla Boil the sugar, corn syrup and water in pot to the soft ball stage on a candy thermometer. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour over popped corn and stir in quickly. Butter your hands and form balls. Pack enough to hold their shape but not too firm to make them hard. Let set out awhile before packaging. These are goey and wonderful! |
