Power pressure cooker

I was watching tv other night and seen an infomercial for the Power Pressure cooker XL. I was quite intrigued but skeptical at the same time. In checking it out on different sites their viewpoints, I decided to go ahead and purchase one anyways. I bought mine from Bed n Bath Beyond, and not from the main site. Reason being is I read it takes several weeks after ordering it to arrive. I figured since we have a BnBb locally, I could exchange it if something was wrong. Reason I was so interested in this product is I can't stand longer than 10-20 min at a time , and I also was interested in the canning aspect of this cooker. I often have small amounts of fresh veggies from my garden , but not enough to can 7 qts at one time in my main pressure canner, which I may add takes about an hour to build up the pressure. I purchased this and in a few days received it. Well I have tried it and wow I must say im very impressed. So far I made spaghetti in 20 min, chili in 20 and both were very very good and not mushy. One thing is to make sure you follow the beginning stage of running the unit on canning cycle for 20 min as they suggest. They have lots of videos on pressure cooking on you tube, but I chose the Power Pressure cooker XL for the canning feature. I make a lot of chili's soups n stews and with lots left overs, which I can preserve some in 2 pints if desired. The canning wrack didn't come with my order so I had to get on the site and order that for $9.00 which is on its way. Pressure cooking is so much faster and it comes with the canning and cook book. You can use your own recipes also. You can do whole chickens-ham-pulled pork -roasts-steamed veggies, lasagna-etc., all in half the time or less. Im not sorry I purchased this. No im not affliated with the company whatsoever. I just thought for us busy quilters, its would be a godsend while being busy quilting, we can still serve our familys nutritious and yummy meals in half the time, leaving us more time to do what we like best.

Sounds like a great idea. We have been looking at them, as the two of us can only eat so much of the fresh garden. We do have the larger pressure cooker and I am doing chicken, turkey, pork and beef in it. Turkey was $1.18 per pound at Christmas and it cooked up very nicely. Noticed Amazon had it for sale, along with many models. What has been your favorite thing besides Chili?

lildinks2013 03-07-2015 08:51 AM

Haven't had it too long. But will try turkey and chicken, since we eat a lot of poultry. I bought a lot of turkeys as they were on sale for .50cents per pound at Walmart at Christmas time. I have like 8 whole all white meat turkeys in the freezer. I want to can some in gravy like I used to do. I also slice up the breast meat for lunch meat sandwiches here. I also shred the meat to make enchiladas or use turkey in casseroles and turkey fingers. Whatever you can do with a chicken-you can do with turkey. Yes there are a lot of different models out there and its really up to personal preference. I just wanted this one for its canning option. I may have to get another one for the veggies like steamed spaghetti squash or broccoli or cabbage etc. and use it while im cooking my meats. I want to try scalloped potatoes in it. I seen someone do a ham in it wow.

QVC sells the electric pressure cookers from time to time and great cook books - so I was all excited about them and finally got one. It is so wonderful! The flavor is so great. I originally wanted the smaller 4 quart model, but my husband couldn't find that one, so got the larger model. It can do the canning but I stopped doing that years ago. Have to admit, I am so glad he got the larger model, it can do a lot more and if you want to make less that is okay too. You don't have to fill it each time.

I have used it to make rice - it was wonderful too. But so far, out favorite is chicken stew.

I buy large quantities of chicken when it's on sale, season it up and pressure cook it. After cooking, I take the meat from the bones, shred or chunk it and vacuum seal meal sized portions for freezing. This way, I always chicken ready for enchiladas, casseroles or one pot meals on the stove top. Also make delicious soup out of the broth that's left in the pressure cooker. The flavor is so concentrated and wonderful! I do refrigerate the broth for a day so that I can skim off most of the fat.

I'm loving my pressure cooker!

I'm loving the ideas posted here. Thanks ladies. Will all come in handy. I have a vacuum sealer -woohoo.

I love mine especially for dried beans. I never remember to soak them, and I can pressure cook dried black eyed peas for less than 45 minutes. Beef stew is really good, too. www.hippressurecooking.com has lots of good information and recipes.

Am glad to see your post on the power canner, as I have a small garden in the summer and do like home canned tomato juice. Have a big pressure cooker, but can no longer use it on my flat top stove. At least that is what they tell me, have heard of others using it, one with disastrous results, others with no problem, but I have declined to try it. A lot of time I would not have a big pressure canner full to can so this sounds like the solution to my problem.
Will have to give Bed Bath & Beyond and Amazon both a look-see. Thanks everyone for all the tips, recipe sites and info.

Can anyone tell me how to do a turkey in there? Do you cut it up into pieces to make it all fit? How long for a 12-15 pound turkey ?

Champagnolle 03-08-2015 04:13 PM

I got a good cookbook from Cooks Illustrated that has some wonderful recipes and hints if you are new to pressure cooking. http://americastestkitchen.buysub.co...erfection.html

I have this pressure cooker too. I did ribs in 25 minutes! Fall-off-the-bone, finger-licking good.

Beef stew, pot roast, canning... I use it at least once a week.

I love my electric pressure cooker! I have a glass top stove (Hate it!) and I couldn't use my regular pressure cooker. My electric pressure cooker is wonderful. I make a lot of beans it it. I also cook tamales in it in about 45 minutes rather than 2 1/2 hours. I can't say enough about it. I use it two to three times a week.

I have a wonderful slow cooker ,, but I use my electric pressure cooker , its AWESOME . we could not live with out it .A real time saver and happy meals for my family . More time for sewing , right ?

I bought the Power Cooker at Walmart. The instructions are terrible. What I need to know is how to adjust the time and when to do it. Other than that I have used it a couple of times, once for mac and cheese (won't do that again, we didn't like it), and once for chicken stew which was delicious and once for a pot of beans, also good. If someone has this cooker and could help me resolve the "time" issue I would certainly appreciate it.

Is this " power pressure cooker" the same as the old fashioned pressure cooker on the cooking stove type, except it is electric?..... I went on line to check it out......also read reviews...more negs than pos.....I have the old fashioned PC...learned to use it from parents who had one. I don't use weekly...just certain things, times of year....just like my crockpot..only use it occasionally........some things I can cook faster, more efficiently on stove rather in " pot".... That's just me.......

lildinks2013 03-09-2015 06:56 AM

Im talking about the Power Pressure Cooker XL as seen on tv infomercials. Yes on some sites -got nag reviews, others good. This is an all electric one which also has a canning feature. The times are in the cookbooks which you get along with the unit. There are many cookers out there on the market by different company's such as Cuisinart, Elite and more. I chose this one for its canning feature, and I purchased it thru Bed n Bath Beyond as I mentioned in the first post. I now have had it about 2 weeks and have not had any problems. I also ordered the canning rack as that was not included and extra parts in case I loose one or one goes bad. I ordered it online and the company sent me an email label if I need to return an item. Yes I have an old fashioned pressure cooker and canner but I also have a glass top stove. I have used both on there with great apprehension as I read the glass can crack. it takes a good hour for the pressure canner to reach the amount of pressure I set it at, then I have to add the timing for processing the jars which a holds 7 quarts. I dont always have that much to can from my garden at one time. Soon I will make soup and try canning a couple of pints as it says it can do. I will post here the results. As for my crockpots-I use all the time also from making oatmeal for a hot breakfast in the morning to cooking other items. My PPC is much faster.

lildinks2013 03-09-2015 06:57 AM

If it didn't come with a cookbook-go online to the company's main site . They should have recipes and times listed there.

tenngal 03-12-2015 02:38 PM

I bought one also and just love it !

lildinks2013 03-12-2015 04:11 PM

yes I love mine also and am waiting for the canning rack. Its on its way they said.

I bought the Cook's Essentials electric pressure cooker from QVC on sale for $40 because my neighbor bought all 3 sizes of the same one and raved about it. I certainly agree. The 4 qt. is plenty big enough the 2 of us.

plainpat 03-18-2015 03:34 AM

DD had about worn her elec pressure cooker out.Cabbage or beans ,soup,a lot of veggies. So I bought the 4qt size & there it sit & sit.Think I am just too old to appreciate newer kitchen helpers. When they came to visit, the cooker was boxed up with a good handle & flew home with them.Other DD swears by the Ninja cooking system. My feeling is whatever works for you.

I've been terrified of pressure cookers since I was a child. Also wary of gas ovens since the days I had to 'light the pilot' with a match and blew off my eyebrows, hahaha!
Love reading about y'alls experiences but that's about as close as I'll get, thanks.

This pressure cooker that we are all talking about is an electric one and it does not have the weight on top that standard pressure cookers require. The electric ones are programmed to either remove pressure by its self or you can flip the dial on top.

OH! There is such a thing? That's reassuring and interests me. Thanks for sharing that, lildinks.
