If you like Pretzels or Bugles try this it's DELICIOUS MMMM..

2Cups of crunched up pretzels or Bugles
2Tbl.sps. of sugar
3/4 cp of melted butter or margarine
Mix together and spread on the bottom of a large baking dish, bake at 350 for 8 min. let cool.

Dissolve
2-6oz. boxes of strawberry jello into
1 1/2 cps of boiling water set aside in fridge
Mix
2- 8oz. Packages of cream cheese 1 cup of sugar in mixer until smooth on low, add 1 large cool whip, and spread on top of cooled pretzels.
Add
2 cps of frozen strawberries to the jello, spread on top of cream cheese mixture chill well and serve.

You can use Bugles instead of the pretzels and also you can use a different kind of fruit and jello or if you want to try something else instead. This is so YUMMMMMMYYYYY .... Enjoy

That recipe probley be good with some blueberries or some rasberries and maybe use some grahm crackers or vanilla wafers for the bottom crust

I've made this many times...the pretzels sort of turn into a "nutty" crust. The only thing I've found is to put it back into the frige for a while after the cream cheese layer..if you dont and pour the hot jello over...it sometimes makes the cheese layer rise into the jello. It is awsome..and doesnt stick around very long....:)

Yeah maybe let the jello get room tempture and then pour over the cream cheese but anyway it does sound very good
I remember my mom when I was little she would make this jello and mix it with ice cream and walnuts and mix them together it would come out like a parfeit it was really good just never watch her make it Iv'e only watched her make the important foods like the main course that is what im good at is cooking diners.

My one Son-In-Law makes a pretzel jello somtething like yours, don't know if the ingredients are the same. He makes it at Easter for a family get together.

I make this same Pretzel Jello Layered dessert. It is so good. I have tried it with raspberry jello and raspberries instead of the strawberries.....hard to believe but it is even better with the raspberries for our taste buds anyways.

This sounds like dessert, not salad!
Thanks for the timely post - I belong to a school staff lunch club and my turn to provide the meal is quickly approaching. They're going to get this, but I'll call it dessert. :-D

enjoylife950 02-21-2010 10:05 AM

Well what ever you want to call it. it sounds really good it's, making my mouth water just thinking about it

Pamela Artman 03-05-2010 08:58 PM

enjoylife950 03-05-2010 11:43 PM

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm good like cambells soup lol

Carol's Quilts 03-06-2010 10:39 AM

This is just a wonderful dessert.

The reason you use pretzels (or bugles) is because you want the salty/sweet contrast. Graham crackers or cookie crumbs won't give you the same effect.

Completely cool the pretzel crust after it is baked.

Spread on the cream cheese layer and refrigerate so it gets as firm as it can. Be sure to spread it all the way to the edges so it touches the pan all around. Otherwise, your Jello may seep down under the crust and make it soggy.

Add the frozen strawberries (with juice) to the hot dissolved Jello and stir until the berries and juice completely melt and keep stirring until the Jello thickens and has consistency of raw egg white. Then pour it over the cream layer. It won't seep under the crust. It won't melt the cream layer and it will jell all that much faster. You will have success every time and it is luscious!

yummie i have to try that one day sound so good

b.zang 03-06-2010 10:05 PM

If I make this on a Wednesday, will it still be good to eat on Friday?

Carol's Quilts 03-07-2010 06:12 AM

I would think it would still be good on Friday, but my directions say to make it the day before and let it refrigerate overnight.
Can't you make it on Thursday? Perhaps you could bake the crust on Wednesday, wrap it well and set it aside until Thursday. You could probably also make the cream cheese filling on Wednesday and just keep it in a bowl until assembly sometime on Thursday.

Stop to think of it, on those few occasions when I did have leftovers, they were just as good the second day, so go ahead and make it Wednesday for Friday. Just make sure you spread the cream filling all the way to the edges of the pan to seal it.
I'd love to know how it turns out for you.

enjoylife950 03-07-2010 11:33 PM

it should be still good should ok for 3 days in your frig just dont leave it any longer

b.zang 03-09-2010 09:07 PM

Thanks so much for the storage answers. I have to provide lunch for the staff on Friday (we take turns) but I won't be home from work until after 10 p.m. on Thursday. I'd rather not be up all night making pretzel salad!

enjoylife950 03-10-2010 07:55 PM

Hey, you have wild hogs and turkeys in California; both of which my DH is jealous. He's on his way there for Easter and wishes he could go hunting!

Thank you for this recipe. I took it for lunch today and it was a huge hit. One woman was greatly excited because she had read about pretzel salad in a novel. Nobody had ever had it before. My DH is disappointed because none came back home.

enjoylife950 03-12-2010 07:47 PM
