Quilters Hand lotion

I found this recipe on another website, and I just love it.... My hands were dry and almost coarse. Now my hands are silky and soft. I can't buy Vitamin A in our local towns, so I had to order it off the internet, under Walgeens website, the Walgreen's stores (in our area) don't carry it. I reduced the recipe to meet the one jar of Vitamin A.

Homemade Quilters Hand Cream

1- 4 oz jar Vitamin A cream
1- 4 oz jar Vitamin E cream
just under 2 oz vaseline or petroleum jelly
2 - oz creamy baby oil

Whip all ingredients together, and place in decorative jars.

For a larger recipe, go to www.quiltville.com and type in the recipe name. Share the cost with other quilting friends. The recipe says you can purchase Vitamin A at a "Shoppers Drug Mart". Our small towns don't have such store.

Thanks! I am always looking for extra rich hand cream, especially this time of year.

I mix the pink baby lotion (large size), a jar of vitamin E cream and a large bottle of Vaseline Extra Dry Skin Lotion. That makes a fine quilters lotion and smells good too. I keep the vitamin E cream jar to transfer it to after mixing. The rest I just put back into the Vaseline bottle and/or the baby lotion bottle (using a small funnel) until the jar runs dry.

Winter weather is on the way, time to whip up a batch!

My husband loves this lotion! I use the vaseline, vitamin E cream and baby lotion recipe and it requires it to be hand mixed because of the thickness. My husband volunteers to mix it up for me because it coats his dry hands at the same time

Isn't this stuff great, makes great gifts in little jars from a resale shop. But make sure you give the recipe with the gift or they will be back for refills. *Ü*

Forgot to mention I use my Kitchen Aid stand mixer to mix it well, just do NOT lick the beater.

Thanks for the info!

I've been making this for quite a while. I make 6 jars at a time. I use 2 Vit E's, a small jar of vaseline, and a med bottle of pink baby lotion. I love it. put it on my feet and DH back, anyplace that needs it.LOL

sniktasemaj 11-21-2012 07:44 PM

Gee I can't find anything that really helps the dryness. Will have to try this one. Thanks for the recipes.

It sounds greasy, does it soak into your skin quickly ??

I was wondering the same thing.

Yes, the baby lotion, Vit E cream, and Vaseline Extra Dry lotion does soak into the skin. It does not leave a greasy residue. If you don't mind greasy Bag Balm does wonders if you put it on and wear cotton gloves to bed at night.

Sallyflymi 11-22-2012 08:21 AM

Will have to give this a go. Thank you for sharing.

Can this be put into an empty pump bottle or is it too thick? Hope I didn't post this twice.

w7sue 11-22-2012 07:15 PM

I will have to print this recipe out and give it a try. I was given a jar of Avocado Hand & Face Cream this past April and the gift giver brought me three more jars when she travelled here in July. I LOVE IT! Not greasy at all and makes my hands feel so good when I am doing a lot of hand work. I have already finished another jar of this cream and am working on my third one this year. They are 4 oz. and $10 each. I am sure making this recipe would be much cheaper!

My husband had psoriasis on his hands. I used this basic formula and added Burgamoot and glycerin and his hands are doing very good. I also gave it to an elderly neighbor who had been going to a wound Dr. For an injury to his leg. It started to heal and he went to Mich and the cold caused it to break open again. The Dr. Advised to keep cream on it to keep it moist. He was going every 3 days back to the wound Dr. I gave him a jar and he told me the wound Dr. Could not believe the difference. The Dr. Wanted the ingredients and my "recipe". I just make a big batch and estimate the amounts to put in until the consistency looks right. I did have to order the Burgamoot online and I did not have the vitamin A cream. My friends all love it and it probably costs me about $6 per jar to make. It is a great gift for Christmas and most likely the receiver will want more. It has a nice fresh smell and several of my male friends use it also. Great stuff.

I have made that recipe for years, but I really like how silky my hands feel and heal with the vitamin A in the recipe.

Luscious Marilyn 11-23-2012 02:20 PM

Yes, I thought it looked greasy also, but touched white typing paper... and it leaves no residue or grease. I just can't say enough good about this recipe, the former recipe, with the vitamin E is good, but I feel this really heals, extreme dry, scratchy skin. If you use it when you go to bed, you have no need to worry about grease, it soaks in. It's a thick consistency, so it won't work in a pump. W7sue, I don't know if the recipe is cheaper than what you quote, but if you want a good product, try this.

Luscious Marilyn 11-23-2012 02:26 PM

Thank you for the advice regarding psoriasis, I have a step daughter and a sister in law that struggle with that rash. Can you share your recipe for your lotion ? I would really appreciate that. Thanks in advance.

Luscious Marilyn 11-23-2012 02:40 PM

I made that very same recipe for years, that Kath 12 speaks of, but I don't think I 'll ever go back to that one, after trying this recipe with the Vitamin A, just my choice now.

nivosum 11-25-2012 07:49 PM

I can't find the recipe for the lotion on quiltville.com

jojo47 12-29-2012 07:10 PM

Wish I had seen this before Christmas...Oh, well...Filed away for next year's to-do gift list! Thank you for posting!

If you put the baby lotion in the microwave for about 30 seconds, all will mix up nice and smooth then, no using a mixer, just stir.
