Recalled melon

Salmonella again. This time cut up melon. I don’t know if it helps, but I put melons in the sink & wash rind well with soap & water. I’ll do my own cutting, thank you. I watched a report on tv about a produce warehouse & workers were urinating on crates instead of walking to restrooms. :(

Homemade Veggie Wash: (Use a large container because it foams up then settles down again)
1 c water
1 c vinegar
2 Tblsp baking soda
2 Tblsp lemon juice
transfer to spray bottle. Spray on produce let sit 5 minutes then rinse well.
Does it do the trick ? IDK, but makes me feel better using something

Thanks for the recipe, tranum.
I don't like buying fruit and things like that already cut up. I always worry that the person who cut them may not have clean hands lol. I'm kinda phobic about things like that.

I don't generally buy pre-cut fruit or veggies either but more of a money saving issue than a sanitation one. Until I saw the article about the salmonella, I figured that the fruit was cut up in the store by store employees. Never thought of it being done by a big company and then shipped to the stores. Surprised me. I also wash all fruits and veggies before cutting or using. I try not to think about how many hands, including shoppers like myself, that have touched it before it ended up in my cart. My daughter thinks I'm nuts, I think she has just been lucky!

When I bring my produce/fruit/berries home, I put some cool water in a clean sink and pour some white vinegar into the water and rinse them all off for a few minutes, drain and dry them well., They a little bit longer also.

I've always been tempted to buy that cut-up fruit, but I'm just too cheap. Now, I don't think that I'll ever buy it. :( I'll grow my own instead and get out my chef knife. Thanks for the tip on rinsing with the vinegar.

Latest info is that no matter how well one cleans their sink, it is still not clean enough for food to touch it.
