Recipe Memories

I just put a Peach Cobbler in the oven. Every time I make it, I think of my Father. He always said, "Serve me up some of that Peach Gobbler and I'll gobble it up for you." What recipes prompt sweet memories for you?

Whenever I make baked potatos, I think of my mum, who always used to say, "Nothing hotter than a hot potato." as she put them on your plate.

Homemade egg noodles. We make them during the holidays. Was my mothers best recipe and I think my sister and I have her recipe pretty well copied!

I have two favorites that make me remember, my Father. 1. Hot Apple Pie out of the oven with a slice of cheese on top. 2. Homemade cornbread and buttermilk. He died at 49 yoa, in 1982, and I miss him terribly every day. All memories of him are good.

My grandmother's pumpkin pie. I make it every Thanksgiving using her recipe. Easy and better than the restaurant or premade pies. For my DS and DDILove's 2nd anniversary, I made a cookbook of family recipes and added a picture of the family member who made that favorite. They were so thrilled, they called and thanked me as soon as they opened it. A first!!

For me it is macaroni and tomato sauce served on my grandmother Louisa's macaroni platter. I never knew her but my mother kept her memory alive by using her platter when we had macaroni. My mother used her mother's way of serving macaroni on that platter, one layer of sauce, some cooked macaroni, sauce, macaroni, sauce and some grated Italian cheese over the top. I inherited my grandmother's platter and used it her way over the years. I don't do those big dinners any longer and now the platter is with one of my granddaughter's and she will begin serving macaroni the way her great great grandmother Louisa, great grandmother Millie and grandmother May (me) did to the next generation of our family.

I guess my best memories from a recipe would be Easter (as I am not a fan of lamb and mint), but the pies ... yummy especially Grandmother's pecan pies. We would set the table with the good china, silverware from the silverware chest. The table had our best tablecloth on it with napkins and all the finery for a good Easter dinner. I wish my grandchildren could of met my grandmother & my husband's grandmother when they were growing up and shared the many traditions.

When my dad made chili, you know, ( I don't remember my mom ever making it, but that could be because of my memory, not because O my mom) he put the beans in a blender and mushed them up before adding to the chili. That was what 45 years ago? I have never met anyone else who did that

My Mama's potato salad was so simple and yet so good. Makes me hungry just to think of it. Guess it's lunch time!

My best memory was when my mother made potato bread. The odor was scrumptious and Oh the taste of of a slab of the hot bread was the greatest.

Our neighbors didn't ever bake and their kids would come sit on the back steps and wait when they smelled bread baking. One time the youngest boy said, "Mom said don't you ask for bread but if she offers it's okay." Kids are so honest and Mom always offered.
