I have a recipe for reuben dip that has sauerkraut in it, if you'd like to have it. Or are you looking for main dishes?
|
I use a large jar of kraut. Into a pan put 2 Tbsp butter, 1 chopped onion, 2 Tbsp brown sugar, 1 cup of orange juice and cook it down. Add a half bottle of beer, caraway seeds and the kraut that has been washed. Serve with brats and mashed potatoes. Happy Eating. Hugs, Omacookie

Omacookie, What do you do with the other half bottle of beer?

I rinse my hair with it.... I grew up down wind of a brewery . The smell was awful and the taste is worst Ught!!!!

I like it cooked with pork country-style ribs, pork chops or a pork loin. Season meat according to taste, add a few carraway seeds and a chopped apple. I sometimes lightly saute the meat, then add the sauerkraut. Sometimes I cook it covered in the oven and other times I cook it in a slow-cooker. Delicious!

I make sauerkraut soup. (I think it must be Slovenian. recipe from my MIL)
Use leftover ham with bone or ham hocks 2 large cans sauerkraut (I rinse one and do not rinse the second one so I get some zing!) Water to cover everything in dutch oven Cook for 3 or 4 hours Add 3 cut up potatoes and cook for another hour or till potato is tender This is one of our favorite recipes for winter especially! Enjoy |
I make sauerkraut chocolate cake. That's the only way I'll eat sauerkraut.
|
I put a small jar of sauerkraut on top of my cabbage rolls while cooking to help flavor them, delicious.
Just spread on top of your favorite recipe. |
sauerkraut perogie....yum!

I have one that you make in a crock pot.. Take a small pork roast or tenderloin, place it in crock pot. Grate two small potatoes, mix with the sauerkraut and about 1 1/2 T caraway seeds.. Let cook on low for 5/6 hours.. About half way thru take two forks and shred the pork.. I serve this with mashed potatoes.. Very good

Thanks everyone

Here you go: Reuben Sandwich Casserole http://old.post-gazette.com/food/20020704ruebenp9.asp
This is a great casserole when you have a lot of folks over in the cooler/colder months and want something other than cold sandwiches. It is addictive, though! |
Kraut
I make a great kraut salad to put on beans. No cooking, just mix and refrigerate.

Sauerkraut balls. Drain a can of sauerkraut, squeeze out some of the juice. If it is stringy I chop it a little. Brown a pound of breakfast sausage and break up the chunks and drain the grease. cool. Add 3 oz crean cheese and sauerkraut. Chill. Roll into balls. Dip in a beaten egg and bread crumbs. Deep fry until brown. I have also baked them to save calories. Very yummy.
