Super Bowl Munchies
So.... just found out DD and DSIL are planning to watch the game here again on Sunday.... for the last 2 years I've served chicken wings...dry garlic ribs... a fun garlic type of bread loaf.... vegies and dip.....SO.... just trying to come up with a plan so I can go and shop tomorrow....
What to serve? Any easy fun suggestions? We don't eat sweets..... and I prefer most of the food to be made from scratch rather than packaged.... 1. I think I'll serve some of those little mini quiche .... 2. 3. 4. Look forward to hearing your suggestions.... I did search here for Super Bowl Recipes but didn't come up with many from the past. |
rachel ray always has some good super bowl recipes http://www.rachaelraymag.com/recipes...me-day-recipes

Here is my favourite:
2 pkg Pillsbury Cresc Roll Dough 1 pkg 250 gram (8 oz) cream cheese 2/3 cup Miracle Whip (mayo) 1 tsp dill weed 1/2 tsp garlic powder 1/2 cup shredded carrots 1 1/2 cup finely chopped cauliflower 1 cup finely chopped broccoli 1/2 cup finely chopped red onion 1/2 cup finely chopped green pepper 1 1/2 to 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Spread out dough on cookie sheet. Bake according to directions on pkg. Cool completely. Beat together cream cheese, Miracle Whip, dill weed & garlic powder until smooth. Spread on cooled crust. Sprinkle veggies evenly on top. Top with cheddar. Cover with saran wrap and refrigerate overnight. Cut in small squares. Enjoy! |
Trisher, thanks for that... I do have this recipe as well... and may make it if I don't get other suggestions~

We always make water chestnuts wrapped in bacon with the ketchup/sugar sauce. Usually we also have shrimp cocktail, queso with chips, and dill dip with veggies. Those are our standards!

Thanks.... every time our little bowling group has a wine and dine.... one person always brings the shrimp ring (usually still half frozen) from Costco.... Not my favourite... I hope that a group of friends can bring a from scratch yummy that shows that they care enough about each other to make an effort... JMHO |
Quick and easy...take whole fresh jalapenos, slice them open lengthwise, scoop out the seeds and membranes. Stuff peppers with cream cheese and top with crisp fried bacon that has been crumbled.
Another idea that's so easy is to place a whole block of cream cheese on a plate, cover it generously with Japapeno jelly and serve with crackers. |
Baked brie? Hot artichoke dip? Nachos with cocktail sauce, crabmeat, green onions and mozzarella cheese? Stuffed mushrooms? Potato skins with melted butter, onions, cheese and sour cream.....
I think I better have a party! |
Beer cheese dip served with small pretzels (https://www.hiddenvalley.com/recipe/...er-cheese-dip/), homemade loaded pizza (made with the pizza crust recipe found here), maybe another dip for carrots.
On the beer dip, mix just before serving. Needs to be pretty close to room temp. |
If you use a food processor it gets very creamy.

I like to make small teriyaki turkey meatballs. No recipe but made from a pound of ground lean turkey mixed with an egg, Italian bread crumbs, minced green onions, worcestershire, freshly grated parmesan cheese and a bit of teriyaki salad dressing or tempura sauce. Bake at 400 til done, brush with a bit more tempura or teriyaki dressing at the end.
Also honey dijon chicken on a skewer, though this will also work for wings. You can buy honey dijon mustard salad dressing or make it by adding a tablespoon or so of honey dijon to a mild Italian dressing, Marinate chicken strips (breasts or thighs) or wings for 20 minutes, then skewer strips using soaked (30 minutes) wooden skewers. Bake, grill or broil til done. |
How about stuffing small tomatoes with a flavored cream cheese? Another goodie is to bake salmon, cool, then mix with a little mayonnaise, splash of lemon or lemon pepper and dill? Serve cold on stoned wheat crackers or baguette bread slices. I agree- the frozen shrimp rings make me gag. You could cook your own shrimp and make shrimp salad?
I googled appetizers and was overwhelmed! |
1 large pkg. Velveeta cheese - I can Ro-Tel Diced Tomatoes with Green Chili peppers - 1 Lb pork sausage ( I like Jimmy Dean) Cook sausage in skillet until done. Combine all ingredients in crockpot. Stir until cheese melt and all ingredients are blended.Serve with Tostitos Scoops.

Our tradition is homemade soft pretzels.

Stromboli! It's one of our favorites. You can add any filling you want, our favorite is pepperoni, sausage & cheese with pizza sauce for dipping.

I love potato skins using small new red potatoes. Easy to make from scratch.
|
Taco Dip is our favorite, and if we go anywhere that is what i am to bring, i also make buffalo wings, (spicy), pizza rolls, and potato skins, cookies, cookie bars and pecan cresents. its a nice time and as you can see fattening.

#1 Sausage cheese balls-1 lb uncooked sausage, 1 lb grated cheddar cheese, mix this well together and gradually add 2 cups of Bisquick, season with garlic salt or powder. Mix well, then roll into small-med size balls, bake on a cookie sheet for 15 min. or until golden brown @350 degrees. These freeze well.
#2 Cheese dip melt 1 large box of Velvetta cheese in a crock pot, add 1 lb. cooked sausage - mild to hot (desired taste) mix in one can of Rotel regular or original, 1 can golden mushroom soup if you can find it- our store doesn't carry it anymore, so I have to use cream of mushroom soup. Allow to cook for a while on low-stir often, and serve with chips. #3 Dill Oyster Crackers. 2 1/2 pkgs 12 oz. size of sm all oyster crackers, place in a LARGE bowl- set aside. Mix well the following: 2 tsp. dill weed, 1 tsp garlic powder, 2 tsp. lemon pepper, 2 pkgs (1.6 oz. size) of Dry Hidden Valley Ranch Buttermilk dip mix/ stir dry ingredients well then add 2 cups of Wesson oil and mix well. Stir this mixture into crackers, making sure all of crackers are covered. I then place crackers in large plastic zip lock bags and shake vigorously. These taste best if allowed to season overnight if possible. Enjoy |
Tortilla roll-ups, large flour wraps, spread with chip dip mixed with cream cheese, spread on wrap add some thin sliced deli meats, roll up wrap in plastic wrap in fridge for a few hours. Slice in 2" slices and serve with salsa on the side. I used to make these for my kids and they would grab a 'roll' and eat it on the run.
I have some wraps and will make them for myself--just because they are good, no game fever here. |
...it may be too bad I don't watch football...I'm missing out on some banquets!
|
Have done this before. ALso jalapeno poppers. But crumbled the bacon and mixed the cream cheese with bacon then stuffed the peppers. Dipped in egg white and rolled in Triscuit Roasted Garlic cracker crumbs, then baked 20 minutes at 350-375.

Buffalo Drums: This time of year, wings are more expensive since people love to make them as snacks--I use drumsticks instead--especially if I can find them on sale. Use any Buffalo wing recipe--they just take a little longer to cook.

Baked Potato Bar ..... Let everyone build their own baked potato as desired! Set out the baked potatoes, with a stack of small bowls with an assortment of toppings, from the traditional to the more modern and bizarre toppings. Extra potatoes can be kept in a crock pot, for those who want to wait a while til they have one (or for those who want 2nds ... or 3rds!)
Mexican Mess ..... with crackers and veggies |
Geri I don't watch the football game either. I just eat the snacks. We often have homemade soft pretzels. This year we are going to a party and I made chocolate caramel brownies.
The baked potato bar is always good. I have served that to a crowd. I always put out lettuce too as most of the potato toppings make a good salad bar too. |
Little Cocktail wieners in chilli sauce & grape jelly or wrap with cheese and bacon. Men always eat these up. LOL

And could further supplement with a chili .... to top the potato ... and can be nice atop the fresh veggies too. |
Wow..... thank you so much everyone! I'm drooling reading all these great ideas!

There is a bread that is sold in the deli section at most supermarkets. I can't for the life of me remember what it's called, but the slices are only about 2 1/2" square. Get a loaf of that, spread some cream cheese on each slice, press a slice of cucumber into the sour cream, them sprinkle with a bit of dill. Very easy to make, and they're really good! :D
