I have just taken a jar of dill pickles added sugar (about 1/2 cup to a gallon) stirred it till dissolved and put in the fridge. After several days I have sweet dill pickles.

How long will they last when you drain them and add the syrup?

So you use pickles to make pickles? Just to change the flavor?

Yes, I know it sounds silly but they are great candied and end up being real, real crisp!

I have never heard of sweet dill pickles, always one or the other. I know where there is a Kroger store, will have to check out those candied pickle sticks.

I think I will just stick to Kosher Dills and Bread and Butter pickles.

I use this method but drain the pickles/cut, put back in jar and add sugar. Lay jar on it's side and roll several times during the day to coat all slices. Then in frig.

GrammieJan, do you have a favorite brand of pickles that seems to work best for this recipe?

Not really. The only brand I saw at the store was Best Maid. Our town does not have a SAMs, nor Costco or Krogers. Try them, I think you will like them. Nice and crispy and great flavor.

Do you mean how long before they go limp? I doubt if they will lose the crispness, have never known of that happening. But then, I enjoy eating them so much that they don't sit a long time.

I have searched and searched since I left New York over 4 years ago for these pickles - the only ones I really like and I do REALLY, REALLY like them. (I'm a B&B fan too.) Blessings on you for giving me an opportunity to enjoy them once again since I'm unable to find them on any shelves here in Nevada, and friends who visited us in NY have asked over and over how to get them. These will be my Christmas gifts this year. You have definitely made my day . . . my year!

Thank you!

You are very welcome. I didn't know if anyone else would like these or not. I had misplaced my directions for awhile and then found it again recently. Made a batch, and they are still good. Be sure to let them chill several days until they are at their best.
