Hint ... use foil pans (take out containers, pie plates etc.) as they are less fragile. Then wrap with your foil!

Potatoes ... I;d be adding some onions to those! :) and/or some pre-cooked bacon (are there ever any leftovers?)(
Those packets are a good way to use leftover potatoes from previous meals!

Lemon slices with the fish is really nice ... and for me, more onion slices too! :)

And now you have me drooling ... ane green with envy!

What a GREAT idea! I hadn't thought about using the aluminum pans from pies and things. I'll be saving those now ! Thanks for the great tip.

Yup, we called them hobo packs in Girl Scouts... a lonnnnnnnnnnnng, long time ago. Good though!

I think that's where I learned about them first. My mom was a girl scout leader so we went to camp every summer and had these. Maybe it was the air, but I swear those were the best meals ever.

You can now buy no-stick aluminum foil - the best thing for these. Also, if you wrap your food in foil, then a layer of wet newspaper, and another layer of foil, they will be protected enough to just throw into the fire. The wetness of the paper provides some inner steaminess and when it's dry, the food is done.
Yummy!

Wow - great idea. I am so glad I posted this. GREAT tips! Thanks so much!

We HAVE done these too. I learned how to make them back in Girl Scouts and we called them "Hobo dinners".
We make them every year while we are up camping. LOVE IT...

I remember doing the packets when I was camping many moons ago! But now my grandkids love doing it on their own when they camp! Love'n the memories! Thanks!

Plus they can do double duty as your serving dish or dinner plate!

We called them poor boy dinners. I still do that sometime for DH and myself,so easy and no dishes to wash :)
