Toaster Oven discovery
O.K., as some of you know I purchased a toaster oven not long ago. This week I made a discovery about cooking canned, store bought biscuits in it. I can cook biscuits in about 10 minutes instead of 17 minutes in a conventional oven. Also, it keeps me from heating up the kitchen with the big oven.
Then, I discovered that I can unpackage the biscuits & freeze them individually on a cookie sheet & then after they are all frozen, I just store them all in a zip bag in the freezer & take out as many as I want to bake when I want. Since I pre-froze them individually, they don't stick together in the zip bag. They are so cute...they remind me of pale hockey pucks! https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...es/biggrin.png |
Makes perfect sense, I just never thought of freezing canned biscuits. I have purchased frozen biscuits. I quit purchasing them because it takes a while to get thru 20 biscuits in a frozen bag. Thanks!

Are you talking about the biscuits that you tear off the wrapper and whack the canister on the counter? I cook a ton of stuff in my toaster oven, I'm thinking I can do this with the cinnamon rolls that come in a can. I love cinnamon rolls with coffee in the morning.

I have a lot of bakeware that fits my toaster oven. I use it to bake casseroles, cornbread, muffins, and cookies.

What a fabulous idea! I love biscuits now and again with soup or goulash but as a singleton I can never or shouldn't ever eat all that is in a tube. Even my southern biscuits recipe cut in half makes too many. Hate letting them go to waste. (Or to eat them all and have them go to my waist.). Keep using the toaster oven and sending us your discoveries.

Great tip about separating and freezing the biscuits.
My original house wall mounted oven stopped working a number of years ago. It isn't as easy to replace as just taking it out and putting in a new one, it's dimensions are different, the cabinet is different, it is hard wired, yada yada yada -- best way to replace is to do an entire kitchen remodel and that hasn't happened. But -- toaster oven! Wow, it isn't the way to make lots of sheets of cookies, but it is amazing what you can fit into one. It's light weight and easy to move -- so in this super hot weather, I just took it out on the porch and do my cooking outside. |
Oh now that is very helpful news!!! I stopped buying biscuits because we can't eat them fast enough, even the small cans. This should help a lot. thanks so much. As it is i had to freeze my bacon and must cook that soon. Just my son and I and we don't eat much!

I think this would work just as well with canned cinnamon rolls. |
I use can biscuits for dumplings. Pinch apart and put in simmering chicken broth, add cooked chicken, a can of cream of chicken soup, and season as desired.
