Treacle instead of sugar
Has anyone added treacle to their baked goods recipes? If I add treacle to a bread recipe, do I reduce the amount of granulated/brown sugar that is called for. My friend gave me a tin of it and I’m not sure how to bake with it. There isn’t much info on the internet.

Treacle is about the same as light brown sugar with syrup added I think. So depending on how much of the treacle you want to add, I would reduce the brown sugar that amount. You will need to watch though because it is a liquid, it will add more moisture to recipes.

Why would you not ask your friend for her suggestions and advice?
When I googled, I found quite a bit about treacle. Plus, there seemed to be quite a few recipes ... that looked good to me! |

Depends on what kind of treacle it is, black treacle is the same as molasses, just another name for it. Golden treacle is more like syrup, if you use it instead of sugar you will have to decrease the liquid in the recipe.

Thank you.
