I was wondering if there is a food that is "naturally" available almost all over the world?

I know that we can ship products from almost anywhere to almost anywhere else - but I was trying to think of something that grew almost anywhere.

Onions? They seem to show up in a lot of recipes.
Eggs? do any people eat tiny bird eggs?
Grains? if so, which ones?
Meat/fish/fowl - that seems to be about the only thing I can think of.

Cockroaches LOL - while we don't eat them in North America, I'm sure some places do ...

I travel a lot and love to try different foods. I've never really thought about the common ones, just focused on the unusual!

I think for most places, especially with tourists, the "common" foods will always be there because not everyone is willing to try local food dishes.

I was in Peru 2 years ago and guinea pig is a very popular dish - I heard of number of rude comments from some tourists - OMG, how cruel, how could you eat them? I was shocked at the rudeness, and at one point turned around and asked them if they ate chicken, pigs or cows? They said yes, and my response was - well, what's the difference? Eating an animal is eating an animal - cuteness doesn't factor into how you eat your meat.

Rice and/or bread show up in every culture that I can think of.

If there's a study done, I'm betting on rice, poultry, and eggs.

I'll add bread to that list.

Just about every culture has figured out how to make booze, but is that a food?
