I have never heard of Veg All? What is it?

it is a mixture of vegetables (brand name). Strictly cafeteria food IMHO.

But I'm sure the dish tastes good with the mushroom soup and cheese and crackers in there.

You can get it in Minnesota - love that stuff - even as a side vegetable with a dollop of butter on it! Rainbow, Cub for sure. Edie

why use tins, why not do it from scratch,surely far more wholesome.

Probably because it takes us back to when we were kids and it was the only veggies our folks could afford at the time, but it left a good memory and taste in our mouths. Sort of like Spam. I wouldn't want to eat it every day, but it awakens the salivary glands to a good memory once in a while (my husband and I were as poor as church mice when we were married and ate a lot of Macaroni and cheese and Spam! - That is a good memory!) I still make it once in a while. Edie
