What is on your Thanksgiving menu?
Whether you are cooking it all, brining something to share or just going to eat share what your thanksgiving feast will be.
Im cooking this year we are having a very traditional carb fest of all my favorite recipes. Turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, giblet gravy, green beans (not the cassarole) asparagus, sweet potatoes and cranberries. Mil is taking care of dessert pumpkin, and apple pie. Oh no after rereading that I realized I forgot some kind of rolls well hell hmmmmmm I think I'll buy those everything else I am making from fresh I think I will be forgiven if I purchase the rolls. So what are you having? |
Going to friends and bringing wine. It's the traditional carb fest there as well with most of what you've mentioned above. (Their rolls are store-bought as well, so don't sweat the small stuff!). Happy Thanksgiving one and all.

Whatever Bob Evans is serving for my son and I!

DD is taking me to Ted's Montana Grill for Thanksgiving. I wanted to cook at my house and she didn't want to cook at all this year.
|
This is the first year my three adult children and their families are not coming to our house. My dh and I told them a few months ago that it is time to pass on the baton and they do their own holiday dinners. They each own their own homes now too. It's a lot of work and energy and a lot of activity in our house when we host. I had knee replacement a month ago an my dh is to have back surgery next month so we felt it was time to stop being the hosts. Even tho they invited us to their houses we just want to be home and do our own thing. My dh and my mother who lives with us will be having cinnamon rolls for breakfast then when ready we will be having turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, egg nog, black olives, gravy and pumpkin pie. Those are our favorites. Along with some peace and quiet!!
We still plan to continue hosting our annual seafood fest on 4th of July along with our annual pig roast on Memorial Day with all of them in attendance, God willing. |
We're having similar to the above, but include cranberry salad (cranberries, oranges & rasp. jello). Also a pumpkin sheet cake-with cream cheese frosting. Yum!
Happy Thanksgiving to all! |
I'm cooking most of it today, chilling it, and serving tomorrow. It's turkey, spuds, gravy, stuffing, yams, cranberry sauce, fruit salad, rolls, pies. I learned a long time ago...don't put anything new on the table unless you want a rebellion!

baked cornish hens and oyster (cornbread) dressing
|
Francie...my mil learned that the hard way one year. Her doctor advised her to use less salt or salt substitute... so she used substitute in EVERYTHING. It was horrible!!
|
My rolls just came out of the oven and they smell divine! Made the dough in my bread machine. DH would like to start on the rolls tonight but I said 'no' with a smile. :DPumpkin pie was done this afternoon. DH is doing our turkey in our newly acquired roaster oven and I am doing the dressing and yams in two separate crockpots. We will add mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, string beans with cranberry sauce from the freezer. Just the 2 of us this year but then, we love each other's company.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Though there is a lot of turmoil going on in the world we all still have a lot to be thankful everyday for. |
Just thought I would put two things that we have on our table every year that I haven't seen on anyone's table here - that being Wild Rice Casserole and Kater Bohnen (Dill Beans)!
God Bless us Everyone, peace, love, hope, understanding, compassion and most of all patience. We're getting there - we are only 248 years old!!!!!!! Edie |
Going to MIL's today. She does all the traditional but adds baked mac & cheese and she used to make a hag maw for FIL but he has passed so she doesn't do that anymore. I guess sauerkraut is a regional thing. I like it on my mashed potatoes but it doesn't like me. She doesn't do that anymore either cuz no one can eat it without feeling bad afterward. I get to "rip apart the turkey and make the gravy" as she says.lol I'm bringing fresh cranberry sauce. Daughter is bringing pumpkin pie and DIL is bringing Watergate salad. We also celebrate my husband's birthday. She didn't get Thanksgiving dinner that year.lol
|
Can I come over? Just kidding - my wonderful son-in-law (and daughter) always hosts Thanksgiving; we do Christmas; my sister-in-law does New Years; and my sister does Easter. We have cookouts during the summer, too.
|
Hubs put our traditional Thanksgiving meal on hold this year because I am recovering from surgery. I had worked out all the logistics with my daughter so that all I had to do was make the dressing, but got vetoed. So we are having a sandwich meat tray and a fruit tray. Seems very strange to me, but Hubs is happy, and that's what counts. The jury is still out on how the kids will feel about it when they get here! LOL!

Turkey, cranberry jello salad, heavenly hash, brussel sprouts, corn bread dressing, pumpkin pie, and sparkling wine.
|
We'll see. The turkey is in the smoker, but there is a high wind and snow on the ground. At some point DH well make the 'go, no go' decision on smoked turkey. If it's a no go, we will have baked turkey. With stuffing, fruit salad, potato casserole, roasted vegetables, and home made rolls.
|
We are doing the traditional dinner, with the turkey, gravy, potatoes, dressing, green bean casserole, rolls, cranberry sauce, olives, deviled eggs, and apple bread. We have it at our house because I have all the cooking items. We went to my eldest daughter's home one year and had to take most of the items to cook the dinner. And when we have have not had dinner at home, and no left overs, we end up making the full dinner the next day. My family LOVES the leftovers.
The only difference today is the turkey will not be stuffed, and I am cooking it in the rotisserie. One year my daughter brought home 6 sailors from the Naval Hospital and I needed to cook an extra turkey and it was done so fast I decided to try it again this year since it is suppose to hit 80 degrees here today. |
My hubby will make chicken breast, stove top stuffing, and corn. We were supposed to go to friends, but, I came down with the flu. So, they aren't getting what I was supposed to make either! Back to bed -- hope all of you had a great day.
|
It's over we had a houseful and we were short seven people, three of them little people. But I still count and miss them when they don't come. We had turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, cottage potatoes, sweet potato casserole, cranberry salad, fruit salad, green bean casserole, Amish pudding, banana pudding, dinner roles, apple pie, pecan pie, butterscotch creme pie, pumpkin pie. It has been a great day and now I am tired. Good night all.

I brined my turkey breast (12 lbs) for about 18 hrs. so we're having turkey, stuffing, mashed and sweet, gravy, homemade cornbread and homemade cranberries. Not a crumb was left and it was just my dh and my son. we were little piggies. the turkey came out super moist and delicious.
|
We went to a friend's home and I had spoonbread for the very first time. It was yummy! She cooked mashed sweet potatoes inside half oranges and topped those with marshmallows. Also, she had "Oreo Surprise" for dessert as her family won't eat pie. We took pecan and pumpkin pies along with fresh cranberry sauce. Everything else was traditional. Very nice...lots of everything left over, so she'll have some meals ready made!

We had a group of friends and family, and all of us were doing the cooking in turns, (even DH this year) and had a great time. Dinner was traditional for all of us to remember other thanksgivings spent with loved ones. We had turkey. Dressing, lumpy mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes and pineapple, green bean casserole, corn, cranberries, olives, pickles, rolls, and Martinelli's cider. Pumpkin and apple pies for dessert.

Since my MIL has been in and out of the hospital a lot lately she said she wasn't going to do dinner this year. I got a 2 yr old turkey out of our freezer that was given to us. Needless to say we don't eat a lot of whole turkeys. I have it all thawed out and she decides she will be able to do Thanksgiving dinner this year. GRRRrrr! Now I have a turkey thawed and nothing to do with it. Mind you we ate turkey at her house on Thanksgiving day, turkey at my parents house on Sunday and now we will have turkey again today but who knows who will or won't show up since everyone but me has to work today. Anyone want to eat turkey again with me? My house, 6:00, bring the wine.

You can refreeze the turkey meat after it is cooked!
|
I will probably freeze some of it. At least it's not a really big turkey. It's about 12 lbs. My DIL just loves chicken salad. Although it's not the same, I bet she will eat it made with turkey too. I also plan to make a casserole out of it. I love white chicken chili but not sure it would work as well with turkey. I might try it. At least everyone cooks differently and they aren't exactly alike.

We had beer butt chicken at my brother's. Much more moist than turkey, and had some fairly traditional sides, and desserts. Left over potatoes were made into lefse the next day.
