One note of caution when buying California wines...Be aware of smoke taint. Last year, 2020, was especially bad and many vineyards produced very little, or no quality wine at all. The Anderson Valley was spared, for the most part, because of the coastal influence and no major fires in the area, but Sonoma and Napa were hit hard. Stick to whites that have the skins removed in the wine making process.

I see that France is having a devastating year with late frost. :(

We live in the Finger Lakes - home to scads of wineries. Stumbled upon our favorite about 25 years ago. Hermann Wiemer Vineyards. Excellent, German style rieslings. Second favorite would probably be Dr. Frank's. There are many, many wineries and craft breweries, also a couple of distilleries. I'd still rather spend $ at the quilt shops - we have a few Mennonite shops where I can buy beautiful LQS fabrics at great prices!

Most if not all the red wine around this house goes into spaghetti sauce. We use either a deep rich red Burgundy or brand called Yellowtail Merlot

I hear ya about spending money on wine. I don't drink as much wine as I used to. My dau brings it over occasionally, so I don't buy it much anymore. Plus, my body just can't handle too much wine at once. It sucks getting old.

When I went walking in Andalucia a few years ago, the wine was delicious, we always enjoyed a 'Tinto', which I think is one part red wine and 2 parts fizzy drink (sprite, lemonade, or similar), at the end of a walk, it was so refreshing. However, it could equally have been the place, the time, the company, the country etc. Tried to recreate it back home with no success https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images/smilies/wave.gif.

I'm jealous that you went on a walking trip in Andalucia. Yes, Zinfandel grows well here in CA especially in the south. The roots go very deep, so it can handle the occasional droughts and rarely needs irrigation, once it is established. It's a spicy wine. Lots of zip to it.

I don't care for wine, although I will drink "Girls Night Out" wine, which is basically kool aid with alcohol in it. https://cdn.quiltingboard.com/images...s/rolleyes.png

I like all wine except for Chardonnay. My favorite at this point in time is Petit Verdot from Wit Cellars. Other than that, my preferred wines to drink are the red blend from 14 Hands, and the white blend from 14 Hands.

I'm a cheap date. Box of wine from Walmart. After the sewing problems today I wish I had a box in the frig.

Truth, lol! I have Barrett's esophagus, so wine is an occasional treat now. Still getting old is better than the alternative, or so I'm told.

I still like Merlot, even though it is not so fashionable these days. McNab puts out a nice, velvety Merlot. I like chardonnay if it's bubbly.
