I have 3 seam rippers right now, one at my machine, one at my cutting table, and one on my ironing board under a piece of elastic I tied onto the board. One is very fine, the others the cheap blues....

If it's cotton, or a cotton blend, I wash, dry, and press--no surprises later. I serge the cut edges, I have also zigzagged, both work fine. Good luck :)
