I was thinking more along the lines of an acrylic extension table like sew steady or sounds like table mate(?). It makes a surface level with the machine for free motion quilting.

We used machines identical to those in high...
We used machines identical to those in high school and I am NOT that old!! I don't think it is really that old. They did work nicely. The school sold them for $25. I wish I had purchased one.
