Is the problem you are having that you are cutting off your 'points' when you go to put the blocks together? If so you have to have your points 1/4 inch in from the edge to accomodate your block...

Your pressure foot has to much pressure on it. Different machines have different ways of adjusting this. I think on most frame machines you would want your pressure foot the thickness of a credit...

I did a quilt motif on one quilt and found I had problems with the stitching when the weight of the quilt pulled the area away from the stitching area. That is what this looks like to me. Good luck!

My quilt/sewing room has always been off limits, but there was other things that were not... I never could find a pair of nail clipper, tweezers or everyday scissors unless they were in my pocketbook...

It looks like the block ends on the small squares then there is sashing between them. There is 9 small blocks around the edge (5 colored, 4 background) The easiest size to make this block is 9 x 9....

Try putting the pressure foot down. That is ALWAYS what I forget to do when I go from the sample to the real deal. Always went through all the steps, rethread, clean, change needle, etc with growing...

I would fold the fabric in 1/2 then 1/2 again. Here is a pattern (http://www.quiltmaker.com/patterns/details.html?idx=184) that is a little different, but the tape idea would be great for this idea....

If a single block would look ok just make 2 blocks, quilt them to a backing and then put an over flap on the back. If a single block won't look good I would make smaller blocks then put 4 together...
