I fixed the shells and stones using a hot glue...
I fixed the shells and stones using a hot glue gun. It seems to hold them in place OK and it also had the added effect of weighing down the bottom of the hanging.

Yes this is exactly how the border is done - gosh you are so clever - it took me ages to sort it out! The pattern was a mystery quilt so I have written off to the source and asked if there is a name.
