What is the trick to lining up sashing/blocks...

What is the trick to lining up sashing/blocks when you don't use a cornerstone. My blocks seem to be off a little. Anyone know if there is a way to keep this from happening?

The rules are on their web site. You have to buy the fabric at JoAnns and have a receipt for it. I think the smallest it can be is 36 inches and no bigger then a queen.
