I've done diagonal wavy lines going from corner to corner on the big squares. It's very forgiving and, because it's a wavy line rather than a straight line, you don't have to hit the corners exactly.

I use it all the time. Like nativetexan, I also press on one side, flip it over, make sure there are no wrinkles, and then press again. I also use lots of steam. It fuses much better that way.
