I have try both shuttle and needle..needle is so much easier to me..I got my supplies from Annie's Attic catalog..it comes with a step by step book..needle..etc..I enjoy the feel of the needle..sort...

I have made many hex quilts..I have tie one..because to do that takes away all the pattern of the hexs..it isn't hard to quilt them on a machine..on one I made loops in the hex...just like they do...

I use a long a long tweeter to get get thread that just gets through the needle..but ur fingers are too big to grab..also it is great for picking up lint in the bobbin case if u are using cotton...
