Help making a chevron quilt...will this work??

Do you think I can sew 2 strips that are 5" wide together and then cut them at a 45 degree angle in sections of about 8" lengths and sew together on angles to create a chevron quilt? I don't want to...

Thank you! I was pleased with how it turned out. Contemporary is what my daughters like, glad it is a easy form of quilting to learn. I'm now eat up with quilting! ☺️
