Like a hawaiian quilt, one must hand quilt around...
Like a hawaiian quilt, one must hand quilt around the pattern in order to "pucker up "as you said. It will lift the pattern up. Good luck, it wont take as long as doing a hawaiian quilt, believe me!

Had that happen, found 3 kittens in my batting. But I have an old pooltable as a base and put an 8x4 board on top as a cutting table. Ofcourse you can only do that in Hawaii and I have it in my Patio...
