thimbles

how do you purchase a thimble that fits? I have a lot of thimbles but when I try to use one it will not stay on my finger.
I find i am fighting with the thimble more than I am stitching

I have been given a old singer machine, I am not sure but the # on it tells me it was made in 1938. it is black krinkle finish
with a shuttle bobbin and a metal rod to insert into the front to run...

Thanks for the information I did read the label and it is made for The American market, In fact the motor was made in New Jersey'

I store most of my quilts in pillow cases. they are cotton and it keeps the dust off and keeps them away from any wood they might come in contact with.
