I sent an e-mail requesting permission to return...
I sent an e-mail requesting permission to return faulty fabric. They promptly sent directions for returning. I did not have to pay postage either way.

Use one of your grandmother's old hat pins to keep the needle applicator unclogged. It takes a fairly fine pin to fit in there but it works really well.
